Ya he made a lot of mistakes that may come back to haunt him. But,
Im a bonified roofer.
I had my license.
Retired now.
All you wanna be's give him a break! You know this man put a lot of confidence in people who needed an answer to their roof issue. He made it look easy and very entertaining.
You guys know dam well this roof may never leak. He did some things you called out right away without remembering that the rain was coming. How would you have sealed that edge? By torching it! Wrong! He did it right cuz he had to come back to it.
Good job, Ol man.

I have a bakery that I have patched the roof on for 25 years. Each year I got better. NOW I can put a new roof on because of your video. I watched most all of them. (No way my wife will go up there). This is my first comment ever. I have to let you know I appreciate your work.

I friend of mine and I did a roll roofing job for my dad on and old rental dwelling in the rear of his former residence property here in SE Louisiana. It was very affordable and served the purpose for at least 15 years. It did have that mild slope you speak of. My dad made his Beer, Bread and Egg money from that little "Shack" in his retirement years.

I’m a commercial roofer. Have roofed some of the highest profile roofs on Earth. This guy’s a hack. So much hackery I legitimately don’t know where to begin.

👍👍Minnesota, we get 20 to 25 years on this roof in harsh climates. We use EPDM rollers and a heat gun to weld seams together but I like the torch idea. Also nail base is a good product under the roll roofing for layovers.

Finally, a YT video with American contractors demonstrating the process, using materials available in the US market! I’m not necessarily “Made in America” for domestic products sake- just for some reason all the YT videos I get are from UK! I am gearing up to tackle my first EPDM garage very low slope roof. Joists, sheathing and roofing all gone south.

Oh man I wish they sold shed felt here in the UK with that sticky backing on it. Tired myself out good yesterday painting bitumen on by hand then rolling felt over it!

Great video.... I see 2 problems
1: you always have to cut your first run of S A base in half alway. To prevent a lap on lap Meaning when you run your cap sheet you're gonna have a lap on top of the other lap thats not good . Cutting your first run in half prevent this .
2 : You need to use an 80 pound roller . The roller is used to remove any air pockets that may be trapped in between the materials. In the summer when its hot the gasses starts to build up in the pockets causing the material bubble up or causing the material to separate in time .

Most counties of the USA allow a max of 2 layers to a flat roof (check with YOUR a county building Dept). After that you have to remove the old down to the plywood strata. Also, roofers comments indicate and 80 lb roller is needed to rollover the material.

I'm a certified flat roofer EPDM TPO cold process as well as slope roofs, most common repair i have done on similar roof systems is seams and perimeter not adhering. if you want to do this system invest in the seam sealant. you could also do a seal coat over the existing roof for a similar price. EPDM is my preferred system.

This job is one giant bandaid, reminds me of when I had to patch a hole on the inner tube of my bicycle.

I think the part where you torched and glued will leak overtime. The proper way is to install the ridge and overlap the tarp.

Can this be used on a brand new plywood sheeting sloped roof?
