Original recording by Kimberly Johnson.

With sincere thanks to GregoBase for the score:

Text:

1. Veni Creator Spiritus,
mentes tuorum visita,
imple superna gratia,
quae tu creasti, pectora.

2. Qui diceris Paraclitus,
donum Dei altissimi,
fons vivus, ignis, caritas,
et spiritalis unctio.

3. Tu septiformis munere,
dextrae Dei tu digitus
tu rite promissum Patris,
sermone ditans guttura.

4. Accende lumen sensibus,
infunde amorem cordibus,
infirma nostri corporis
virtute firmans perpeti.

5. Hostem repellas longius
pacemque dones protinus;
ductore sic te praevio
vitemus omne noxium.

6. Per te sciamus da Patrem
noscamus atque Filium,
te utriusque Spiritum
credamus omni tempore.

7. Deo Patri sit gloria
et Filio, qui a mortuis;
surrexit, ac Paraclito
in saeculorum saecula.
Amen.

Translation:

1. Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come
from thy bright heav'nly throne;
come, take possession of our souls,
and make them all thine own.

2. Thou who art called the Paraclete,
best gift of God above,
the living spring, the living fire,
sweet unction and true love.

3. Thou who art sevenfold in thy grace,
finger of God's right hand;
his promise, teaching little ones
to speak and understand.

4. O guide our minds with thy blest light,
with love our hearts inflame;
and with thy strength, which ne'er decays,
confirm our mortal frame.

5. Far from us drive our deadly foe;
true peace unto us bring;
and through all perils lead us safe
beneath thy sacred wing.

6. Through thee may we the Father know,
through thee th'eternal Son,
and thee the Spirit of them both,
thrice-blessed three in One.

7. All glory to the Father be,
with his coequal Son;
the same to thee, great Paraclete,
while endless ages run.
Amen.

Thank you. I was in a schola in high school, now I'm a homeschool mom, and I've been looking for a resource to pass this music onto my kids. These are a lot simpler than most recordings out there, so I might actually be able to use these to teach them the hymns.

This is absolutely beautiful. The clarity as well as the magnificent text are truly inspirational!

Here is something that makes this beautiful song even more special. I read somewhere that during that period of violent chaos they now call the French Revolution, a group of nuns was scheduled to die in the guillotine because they refused to renounce Jesus. Their leader began to sing this song, and they all joined in, and continued to sing it until they were all beheaded. Knowing this makes me want to learn the song.

This is just _sublime._ What a _wonderful_ voice! I cannot thank you enough for this.
This very chant was recently removed by Google from Stephan George's channel, for reasons which make no sense to me.
How I wish Kimberly Johnson was a part of our choir! She managed somehow to get through the few silenced vowels (Di -_gi_ tus ... infun _de_ amorem, etc.) with silky aplomb, despite actually pronouncing them! Amazing.
_Veni Creator Spiritus_ is one of my favorite hymns, because not only by its words but by its notation, it's so _jubilant, _ so _triumphant._ So *appropriate* for the day.
It just sends chills down my spine every time, even as I'm singing it myself, and shedding tears of joy.

This piece fits female voice much better than male.
