You have to grind down the surfaces you are welding, it will make the weld a lot cleaner and it will also be easier to weld.
Could you put a european style washing machine motor (brushed universal) on that bike and power it with an ebike speed controller?

those parts used on that machine...make it more powerful and can run for longer than the top of the range car pumps....who have plastic ringed valves..and cheap plastic motors that easily overheat and burn out..good job
