When I was growing up, the rich kids had these cars. I missed out because we couldn’t afford it. Now I have the top 6 classics and nothing will beat the Nostalgic feeling, a feeling which cannot be replaced by new cars.

87’ I was 11. This was the RC Car to have!!!! Didn’t get my first Rc until 16. Had to work an entire summer at McDonalds to get the Futaba FX10 with an Airtronics 2channel. Never forget seeing this in magazines!!!!

I saved my paper round money for months to buy one of these in the early 90's.

I'm 40 now and have just bought one for me and my son to build as a project.

Just looking at it brings back memories

I have one, I want about 4 more!!! I want to do the Mystery Machine, the A-Team van and the Dumb and Dumber Mutt's Cuts van and of course the black edition one... they are a blast to drive around and I completely agree you are instantly 10years old again! Glad you got one and welcome to the Lunchbox club!

I’m 45 now and I had a midnight pumpkin when I was a kid,
My brother has just got me a midnight pumpkin “black edition” for Christmas, it took me all the way back to when I was a kid, I can’t wait to start the build 🎉

"out to lunch-box" more like! Your look when out on the tiny Moto bike was priceless! Thank you!

As my profile picture suggests, I love the Lunch Box! It's just a fun toy to play with as RC should be. It's reliable and durable as well! It also shared a lot of parts with other Tamiya models so parts are easy to come by even when vintage

What an outstanding review! I got back into rc cars a couple years ago and remembered how it felt to be a kid again. I have newer rc cars but recently drug my original Blackfoot out of the attic from 1986 and there’s just something special about that era of rc cars and trucks!

I had one in the 80s. Now i bought my 2nd one, enjoying it even more. Best retirement gift to myself. Love the Dodge van body.

The Lunchbox is one among many classic R/C vehicles, I grew up wishing I could get. I saved up my money as a kid (it took me 6 months!) To finally get my dream truck: the "Midnight Pumpkin". Back then, you had to assemble the entire vehicle, and that makes the whole process more enjoyable, as it creates anticipation, pride in your build, and attention to detail.

Most people I saw who got the Midnight Pumpkin, painted it black, like the box art. I painted mine a pearl white, and painted the wheels a light blue, to match the blue flame hood decals! It turned out gorgeous! I got a lot of compliments on it.

I don't know if the kits are still the same, but one of the things I really liked about the Midnight Pumpkin was that the body was not msde of the flimsy, clear plastic bodys. While the clear plastic ones were extremely light, they were also very easily damaged, scuffed, or otherwise destroyed.

The Midnight Pumpkin's body was a hard, thick and rugged plastic that could take a beating. As much as I loved the paint job I had done on my Pumpkin, she was no "hanger queen". I put her through the ringer and had a blast the entire time I owned her!

She got some battle damage over the years, but I think her scars made her even more beautiful! I loved that truck.

The Lunchbox is just FUN...! From it's bouncy "don't take me seriously" ride & handling manners, to the way you can carry it by it's front bumper--like a lunchbox!--down to the truly "entry level" low cost for a DIY kit-build version, it's more hot-dogging fun than a frankfurter on a nice summer day... for kids AND adults!😁

I got one for Christmas when I was 12 years old. If you superglue the holes in the wheels it will actually float in water. A few years later I purchased an Associated RC10 1/10 scale 2wd buggy and started racing. After that I went to a Losi XX buggy. Those were fun times and definitely a lot cheaper than the big toys I build today.

Dang it! Now I want a Lunchbox! I remember these trucks when I was growing up. They looked cool, but I went the JRX-T and still have it today... well, what's left of it anyways. Thanks for the time travel, it allowed me to relive some of those memories again. Life was so much simpler back then.

Great video and glad you enjoyed it! I wanted one when I was a kid and recently picked one up for my Daughter. We love it and I have just started building a pumpkin for me! Fun times ahead!!

Definitely cool. A real handful to drive too which is part of the fun. It magically seems to be more stable off road than the Hornet and Grasshopper which are half as tall, though. I guess the big tires soak up some of the bumps because it will go over some stuff like gravel just fine whereas a Hopper will sometimes take off and land facing a different direction or just traction roll.

It's in just the right place between good and bad IMO. I love Hornet and Grasshopper but I find they can lack versatility on some surfaces where the Lunchbox will happily keep going.

I love them stock but I have a highly modified one too with DT02 front suspension and 4-link at the rear. A bit pointless maybe but this hobby is about having fun and I really enjoyed making it handle better, it was satisfying. And me heavily modding one doesn't prevent people having fun with stock ones so it's win/win.

Will always be one of the coolest looking RCs ever made, too.

We love it because it's a part of our childhood. Growing up in the 80s every kid wanted one. Love the lunch box!!!

It's even more beloved if you build it yourself. These cars just have soul unlike many modern vehicles.
