In the inherently patriarchal Buddhist tradition, women are considered inferior to men.
But the nuns of the 900-year-old Drukpa Lineage in Nepal are challenging stereotypes by developing exceptional physical and mental strength.
These nuns are the only female order to practice the deadly martial art of Kung Fu.

You what? I am a 65 years old mother and a grandma but, I do some simple Qigong and kung fu exercises and I feel Great! I do it for vitality health. I admire these Nuns. Bravo!!!! It doesn't matter how old we are if you can you can do it! Why not? Those exercises are GOOD for mind and body. Instead of making a negative comments do it and learn compassion and respect. ❤️🙏

Let's appreaciate how they have the educational infrastructure to teach them english in that remote place. I feel like that really shows their commitment to for one enable the message to be spread, but also for the nuns to venture out into the world intependently.

What’s the harm on practicing & keeping a tradition if there’s no harm done to anyone at all. Amazing way of keeping oneself fit. Powerful women.

About damn time! Restrictions only realistically apply to an individual's abilities. You can't say, "men can't do..." or "women can't do..." because we're all capable of different levels of things. I'm glad this generation is more open to equal opportunities.

As being a Nepali. I was shocked seeing Kathmandu in the caption. I didn't know about them. But I'm so happy that I saw it. So proud!!

Such proud, strong, powerful women enhancing their spiritual lives and those who are not part of the nunnery. I feel such respect for them. I will now have to learn more about this beautiful addition to their lives as Buddhist nuns.
