"A Real Pain is a 2024 comedy drama film, written, directed, and produced by Jesse Eisenberg. A Real Pain follows mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) who reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd couple's old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. The film also stars Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy, and Daniel Oreskes. Emma Stone serves as a producer under her Fruit Tree banner." - Wikipedia

As you suggested, I instantly thought of 3-4 friends I’ve had who reminded me of Benji. They were fun, charismatic, risk-taking but too dark, moody and/or unstable to have long-term relationships with.

Great film! I see Benji as someone who depends on making connections with other people albeit transient, but he lacks the ability to figure himself out and carve his own path.

I didn't see this film in the cinema. I'll try to watch it on DVD.

Loved it. 4.5/5. Would love for Eisenberg to get nominated for his writing and direction for this one. Probably only get one for the writing but I thought the direction was excellent. Kieran is absolutely the front runner for me for best supporting actor.

I LOVED, this film, a brilliant ORIGINAL script written for adults and it’s funny as well. This is one of my favorite films of 2024

I saw this film last night and it hit various emotional triggers for me. I visited Poland with my brother about 20 years ago excavating our Jewish roots while confronting the horrors of what happened in that place. While the film was lyrical and poignant, I also felt it was a bit superficial, maybe b/c I’m principally a reader and used to in-depth explorations of characters and subject matter. The film ran just 90 minutes and so it felt to me more like the equivalent of a short story as opposed to a feature length “novel.” (I’m talking figuratively, I know the film isn’t from a novel.) For example, we don’t know why Kieran’s character is such a mess and why he has failed to launch into adulthood, do we? The death of his beloved grandmother, while searing, can’t be the full reason. I wanted to know and understand more about him, and I felt at 90 minutes that more time could’ve been alotted. The ending (no spoilers here) wasn’t good, though acted beautifully by Kieran. It felt like Eisenberg didn’t know how to end his film.

I love your videos even though i stopped going to the movies because of the bad behavior of the audience but i will buy DVDs and Blu Rays and these reviews are very helpful. Thank you.

I think I saw a different movie. And I am actually tired of the holocaust genre.
