openSUSE 15.3 is the next version of Leap, due to be released this year. I decided to take a look at the upcoming distro in its current state, to not only refresh myself on openSUSE itself, but to also see what the developers are up to nowadays.

I remember seeing openSUSE sold in big boxes at Dixons when I was 12 years old. Bet those would be collectible now!

Finally - someone doing a SuSE (soosa) review!!! Thank You ! I've been using it for 5 years and it has full disk (including boot) encryption available from the installer. I sail with a bloke who has a Hanse yacht. Pronounced Hunsa !

OpenSUSE is my current distro, I am looking forward to this version.

OpenSuse has always been my favorite. I use it at work and Yast makes it easy for anyone to use. I also like how Yast also works in terminal/SSH connections with an ANSI graphics interface. Between Yast and being RPM supported, it is a great distro for enterprise use and personal. I will admit, at home, I still use Pop OS for my desktop machine, but my LAMP stack is running on OpenSuse.

The GeckoLinux respin offers people different desktop:environments, configures everything for new users, including enabling third party repositories like Pacmsn by default and gives them the chance to:see the OpenSUSE desktop in a live environment before they commit to installation. It takes much of the hassle out of setting up and running OpenSUSE. Having it done for you makes life with Linux a lot easier.

Love OpenSUSE Tumbleweed gnome! Current distro for me.

If you config the clock to show date as well it will compact them into the same space.

Thank you, Jay. I haven't used openSUSE since before 2019, I think, but have always had a good feeling about it.

I don't blame you for not posting SUSE content. It's more common in the EU than here in the US.

This openSUSE Leap 15.3 version is a solidified release that focuses more on the building of the distribution rather than refreshing the distribution's packages, helpful video ..datasoft offering application servers on best price.

I've never used openSUSE Leap 15.3 but I have used Tumbleweed. The OS is very integrated to KDE, my favorite desktop environment right now. Yast is also a really good package manager GUI, it's pretty easy to use for new users, in my opinion. Sadly, some of my hardware like my webcam and printer do not work out of the box (or even with the proper drivers) so I couldn't daily drive it.

Interesting. I got the impression that Gnome handles 4k displays really well. In my tests the desktop itself sure does, but opening various programs and I've encountered much more severe scaling problems than with KDE.

I'm on Tumbleweed Gnome 40 right now and It's amazing! The only issue is Nvidia drivers which are not available for my kernel yet. Why can't they make it easy like Arch is beyond me.

My first Linux desto, then switched to Ubuntu. Now after 12 years after testing and using all(not Gentoo) of them back to Debian.

You might have better luck if you started with Gnome, although with a few minutes of settings changes I got plasma to look great at 4k.

Seems to me like 'panel font issue' is actually by design, since other tray icons left the the clock are devided in two rows, so time is meant to occupy both rows.. I'm not the KDE user, though, so don't quote me on that :D

Not only can you customise samba shares - you can actually run this up as an AD Auth server itself.

Installing gnome after plasma is asking for trouble. However it is easy enough to clean up in a test environment, just renove the .config folder is like starting a new. Also in home rm -rf .kde* rm -rf .plasma* will get rid of most of it. Alternatively a new user account.

Honestly they could have taken more care to match the Qt/plasma theme in GNOME. Kvantum has a very good GNOME Adwaita clone for Qt apps. Alternatively, not as good looking but functional is qgnomeplatform and adwaita plugin for Qt. It doesn't look like much effort has been put in the desktop, fairly barebones on that front.

funny you mention it but IMO every distro is miles behind in their logos compare to Suse, cool video thinking about going Suse

It looks like they are using an older version of KDE since the menu has changed in the newer version.
