The new MG HS mid-size SUV broke cover at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed overnight with a massive advancement of the plug-in hybrid version leading the charge.
The new HS is also longer and wider than before, but is shorter thanks to a more contoured roof.
MG has stretched the wheelbase - the distance between the front and rear wheels - to make for a roomier cabin.
Measuring 4636mm long and 1890mm wide on a 2750mm wheelbase , the HS has grown in almost every direction.
It gets a new striking front grille that features MG's latest design language first seen on the MG3. It also comes with slimmer LED headlights, making it look sportier than the previous generation.
The LED taillights, on the other hand, echo the design of the LED headlights as a central motif links them while an X-shape gives the all-new HS a new light signature.
Inside, occupants are greeted by a wide screen panel that houses two displays. The first is a fully digital and customizable instrument cluster, while the second is MG’s latest infotainment system. Both of these measure a sizable 12.3 inches each. In case you’re curious,
The boot capacity of New MG HS has grown to 507 litres further increasing to 1484 litres with the seats folded. The Power Tailgate feature is also available
Depending on the trim level, standard features may include a wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker audio system, a 360-degree camera, and the MG Pilot Advanced driver-assistance system package.
The entry-level petrol powertrain is a turbocharged 1.5-litre unit with 169bhp and 275Nm of torque, which is enough for a 0-62mph time of 9.4 seconds. There’s a choice of a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The plug-in hybrid model couples a 142bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 206bhp electric motor which improves acceleration to 6.8 seconds. More importantly, MG claims ‘best-in-class’ electric-only range from the 24.7kWh battery, with the HS PHEV able to drive on electric-only power for up to 75 miles.
The petrol HS SE 1.5T is available from just £24,995 with the range-topping HS Trophy PHEV priced from £33,995.
Orders for the new compact SUV are already open in the UK, and initial deliveries are slated to begin by the end of July.
