Chardonnay is probably the greatest and most-known white grape variety. This grape variety is so versatile, that it is responsible for a wide range of wine styles - starting from acidic and refreshing to full-bodied and opulent. Chardonnay is also a base grape variety for many popular sparkling wines, including Champagne.

When I was younger, couldn’t stand white burgundy. Now, I just can’t get enough of it. Goes to show one’s pallet develops over time.

I like Penfolds bin 311 Chardonnay. It may not be for everyone, but it is certainly to my taste, especially with butter chicken and pasta casserole.

I’m an ABC, always bring Chablis 🤣. One Chardonnay I really enjoyed was Paul Cluver Estate Chardonnay 2018. That is like a combo of Côte d’Or and Chablis style winemaking in South Africa. Only 33% new oak is used and a third of it goes through MLF.

I love a Chardonnay from my favourite vineyards in Franschhoek or Stellenbosch.

Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs is probably one of the best champagnes ever made, specially 2004's Belle Epoque cuvée.

Chardonnay as a whole is a very changeable varietal, it sucks the soil and just expresses the terroir in a different way every single time if properly tendered. In my native Portugal there are amazing labels of it, specially in the very small Tejo region ( Casal das Aires; Quinta da Lapa)

Wow Agnes, a lot to unpack here. I might have to start checking out Chardonnay's again to find the right one (away from my favorite white wine, Savignion Blanc). Also didn't know that Chardonnay grapes are used in sparkling wine making. So the countries you listed, didn't include the Champaign region of France! So what grapes are used in making Champaign then? (or save it for another video!! ;) ) Cheers

"Chardonnay is also a base grape variety for many popular sparkling wines, including Chardonnay". Blanc des Blancs Champagne? (this before watching the video)
