As a non-Brit fan of Coronation Street, I have thought about making Betty's HotPot off and on over the years. However, we haven't lived anywhere that Corrie was available to view for decades and I forgot about it. Until last night, and I thought it's time to source a genuine recipe and try. And try I will! Ty for posting.

I remember the first time I ever had this back in 1970. My mother took me an my two brothers to live with our grandma when she left our dad. It was very traumatic. We arrrived late at night. It was dark and cold and we were very hungry. My grandma had made us Lancashire hitpot in a big earthenware caserole dish. I rember her slicing onions into a bowl and pouring malt vinegar over them then sprinking with black pepper. We ate big plates of hotpot with those "picked" onions and it was heaven. Made us feel a lot better after a rough day.

I, as a person of Italian origin, have always thought that English food to be undervalued. Your recipe is so simple and accessible that I feel hungry right know!

Regards from Argentina. I tried your recipe. Perfect results! After 55 years I remembered the smell coming from the kitchen when I was a little boy. My grandmother used to cook this. The aroma sent me back ages. Thanks!!!. Daniel.

I’ve only ever made Lancashire hotpot with a ‘best end of neck’ lamb and lambs kidneys, a fantastic dish and it’s never let me down.

I'm from the south and my mum made this at least once a week with neck of lamb, and I can still smell it today. Oh what memories.

I made this for dinner this evening following the recipe as written and my husband and I agree that it is absolutely delicious ! Many people claim that the food from Great Britain is very bland and boring, this traditional English dish certainly proves just how wrong people can be ! This is certainly not the fastest or easiest dinner to make, however, the resulting meal is absolutely worth the time and effort involved. I highly encourage people to prepare this dish especially if you're making it for special guests !

As a lancashire lad who learnt to make it from my granny -fatty mutton chops not chunks, plenty of thyme, no carrots, black pudding crumbled into the gravy, thicker slices ot tater on the bottom, then meat, onions then thicker taters and thinner slices on top - gravy poured over the top and in the oven on lowish heat - take dog a walk, have a pint on way back, - put well salted savoy cabbage on, uncover and turn oven up to brown, try (usually in vain) to serve still in its layers with pickled red and savoy cabbage with a good pint of local beer - thwaite's or proper boddies will do
