Cotton is the dumbest thing to grow when you don't have lots of water.
Cotton is a water intensive crop.

>Worried about water security
>Spends billions and billions of dollars on a new capital, military equipment and other authoritarian oriented things
>Doesn't build desalination plants

Egypt: Why is our water security so bad???

Ethiopia is not colonized at any time, Italy tried twice managed to occupy Ethiopia on the second try but only for five years. If occupation considered colonization, then we need to say almost all European countries are German colonies.

Short on funds?
Build the world's most expensive capital in the world in a desert.
Build world's largest military headquarters when you barely can afford a military

As an Ethiopian, I want to say that even if we wanted to block the nile, we can't. It'll overflow and become a water fall if we tried. So, dear Egyptians, stop panicking.
The dam design is a Gravity Dam, so it's actually the strongest dam on the Nile, resistant to moderate earthquakes, although the area isn't tectonically active in the first place. So, it won't simply collapse
The Dam is already 83% water full, and will be 93% full by the beginning of 2025, and after all this filling, no drought occurred and actually, Sudan even suffered from floods, had the dam never existed, the floods would've been to devastating

For some people thinking that Egypt should’ve built desalination plants and use its water resources in a better way instead of building new cities, Egypt is already building desalination plants near the red sea and Mediterranean sea. Egypt also is lining thousands of km of canals to reduce loss of irrigation. And building the largest wastewater treatment stations, on in the Western desert, the other near the Suez canal. So Egypt is already spending so much money to upgrade the usage of its water resources.

Just pay for the water like our ships pay to cross the Suez Canal !

Egypt: Has water crisis.

Egypt: Builds monuments to the Pharaoh instead of desalination plants and energy infrastructure.

Egypt: How could Ethiopia have done this?

Fair presentation with enough historical context for a video of this length. Thank you.

So what it sounds like to me is it’s Egypt and Sudan versus every other country that uses the Nile river, including Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and any other country I might’ve left out. Considering that Sudan is at war with itself right now Egypt is in deep trouble. They don’t really have a leg to stand on in the situation.

I hate this talk of wars of water. It’s inevitable because governments rather start wars and cause the strife, than fix or fund inventions that would help stop this future water wars. We don’t need to fight over water, we have answers that can be implemented now. Such as, the Stupa, a water source that was created in India, as a village couldn’t/didn’t have a water source that was close, it grows during winter, and melts during summer. It is an alternative way to store and harvest water. And that’s not even all the inventions I’ve seen. There’s a natural invention that exists for forest fires, it’s called goats. They eat the dead brush and dry leaves, and leave droppings that fertilize the soil. This earth still has many solutions to its climate change problems, but we need back control of our governments. All governments, needs an overhaul, a new way of thinking to be put into office. Get rid of the old guard that is in charge, as they refuse to progress past the 90’s

Considering all the jokes about Ethiopia not having food or water… Egypt comes off as incredibly greedy when it comes to this situation

Ethiopia is blessed with rain water but the dam hydroelectricity will empower growth of the nation, eliminate poverty, Egypt needs better water management and Egyptian populate needs to chill.
