*UPDATE* I bought a 2nd one, this exact model. And QC was better. The neck required no shim. And setup was almost perfect. So that is GOOD!

When you just want a budget guitar for fun, I've had good luck with Firefly. Currently have five and I actually enjoy setting them up and adding light mods. For me, that's their purpose, learning and practice tools for working on your own gear.

A buddy of mine purchased one of them and it was cherry right out of the box, all he did was replaced the strings...musta got lucky, nice video by the way 🍻

You may find that there is a screw on the underside of the tremolo that holds the bar in. I bought a Donner strat with that problem. I discovered the one on mine when I went to replace the tremolo! Those FireFly humbuckers really sing!

Was there a shim under the nut you could pull out first before shimming the neck?

Put a Seymour Duncan JB, new wiring harness and a Gotoh GE1996T on mine and...Wow. What a real Gem this thing is now. Other than the frets that are were scratchy as heck, mine was pretty flawless and the upgrades made it top notch. These things are WAY better than they should be. I also have the Music Man version and it is every bit as good, if not even better.

I just got the one that isn't relic. Yeah, I had to polish the frets, too. Still a tad scratchy, but expect them to play in eventually. Not really worried about it. I liked the feel of the guitar enough that I swapped the pickup for a DiMarzio Evolution in black and red. That turned out looking really good. Since there was so much room in the control cavity, I also added a kill switch just to try one out and installed a Bourns pot. I'm pretty happy with everything. Weird how yours has truss rod adjustment at the headstock and mine has the wheel at the opposite end of the neck. I'm sure there's some EVH history that I'm not aware of on that.

Its more fun to just build your own, if you plan on NOT selling it, you can for dirt cheap using Aliexpress, temu, ebay, etc.

Hey hank, , i thought about getting one of those evh fireflys, i traded an amp i had sittin around for a firefly dave grohl 335, it looked cool and all but i hated the pickup it sounded like crap, i ended up selling the guitar, ive got several wolfgangs and a couple of kramers, my go go to guitar is my older wolfgang standard back when fender was making them it plays great the action is 1mm neck is perfect i love it i havnt done anything to it, i just bought a katana 2x12 100watt combo i also have a 5150 40 iconic its ok, have you ever tried the 5150 40 iconic just wondering what you think about them, anyway take care, talk with you later,
