Bless Quasimodo's heart. He didn't dare let go of that cape...

*_Judge Claude Frollo longed to purge the world of vice and sin._*
*_And he saw corruption everywhere, except within._*

Frollo: And He shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit.
God: Now _I_ shall do what _I_ should have done all those years ago.

Everything about this movie is PERFECTION. The symbolism, the plot, the songs, the art, the animation, the serious (yet controversial) themes. It's a true masterpiece and Disney truly outdid themselves.

The gargoyle collapsing with Frollo standing on top implies the fact that stone gargoyles scare off evil spirits like Frollo is evil obviously.

What I love so much about the devil-like gargoyle coming to life is that you could literally see this in two or three different symbolic meanings. On one hand, you could say that this was Satan coming to take Frollo down into hell. But then considering Frollo's previous "Hellfire" song, where he was hallucinating imagery everywhere from his obsession with Esmeralda while also trying to be just and holy, you could think that maybe Frollo was going more and more paranoid and insane (the markings around his eyes show he was lacking proper sleep) by the minute, and that he hallucinated the gargoyle coming to life to take him to hell. And then that idea can also lead into Frollo's conscience: even though Frollo thinks he's doing the right thing, we know he isn't and that he's lying to himself and blinding himself from the truth. But maybe deep inside, Frollo does realize it, and his conscience finally made him see the gargoyle turning into Satan as he realizes what he's done and that he's being punished for it. So many possibilities, it could be one of these, just as it could be all of them.

Everyone’s commenting on the irony of Frollo’s last line and the only thing I want to point out is how they made his eyes glow red, which is an amazing touch and adds a unique layer to his character’s changes throughout the movie

I love the fact that Esmeralda didn't let go of Quasi even when Frollo was about to strike her with the sword.

Keeps him locked away for twenty years, emotionally and mentally abuses him, tried to kill his best friend (twice!) and then admits to killing his mother and implies he tried to kill him AND STILL... Quasi doesn't let go of the cape!

And so He does, Frollo.

1:42 Psalms 37:13-15 NIV
[13] but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. [14] The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. [15] But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
This verse perfectly describes Frollos death.

I agree with the sentiment that Claude Frollo is arguably the most terrifying of the Disney villains because he is the most “real” example of them all.

He doesn’t have dark magic or special powers, or acts in pursuit of domination over their rival in a fantasy world, he’s just a hypocritical fanatic in our world, something that’s so simple yet very real throughout history and well into the 21st century. They believe themselves to be just because of their beliefs alone, regardless of their own actions no matter how clearly immoral and vile they may be.

That’s what strikes me as the most significant distinction about Frollo, he’s the Disney villain we ourselves face in real life.

Frollo: "And He shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit!"
God: "Took the words right out of my mouth."
