10 Movies On Disney+ That Didn't Age Well (Lady And The Tramp, The Jungle Book)

Disney Plus Included A Huge Disney Movie And Show Archive

Disney has been around the block. They’ve been making movies since all the way back in the 1920s, some of them better than others. Now, they’re all being released at the same time onto Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.

This is good and bad. It’s great that we get to go back and revisit the Disney canon in its entirety, but there are some chapters of Disney’s past that are best to leave in the past.

Take Song of The South, for example. It’s a blatantly pro-confederate film about the good ol’ days before the Civil War. Thankfully, Disney has been trying to erase this one from the history books since the 1990s. But there are others that are available to stream on Disney+ that are insensitive in the same ways, if to a slightly lesser degree. Like Dumbo, which has a crow named “Jim Crow.” This was not an accident by any means and Disney acknowledges it by inserting a disclaimer into the movie’s description, warning prospective viewers that there are some “outdated cultural depictions” in the movie.

That’s not the only reason that movies are dated though. There are some with ancient CGI and others that just don’t really make sense to the 21st Century mind.

A better title should be "10 movies current society is too sensitive or fragile to watch"

Let the films stand, yet know that they came from another time. Enjoy them for what they are, what they were. Enjoy them in peace.

I wish people would let Sleeping Beauty alone... yes, "Don't kiss her, just leave her to sleep/be dead for the rest of eternity while you wait for consent." Also, King Louie was almost voiced by Louis Armstrong... which would've been awesome, but since King Louie is an orangutan, they opted not to, to be "sensitive." Honestly, I would've loved to hear Louis Armstrong's take on the song, with his trumpeting.

Flaws or no flaws, they were Disney movies just trying to entertain children and teach lessons. Every film has mistakes and flaws, but don't judge them harshly by their past.

OMG what!? The villain in Aladdin had a darker skin tone than the protagonist? How did this movie get approved!?

You know what really gets up my nerves? What's wrong with the crows in Dumbo, what's wrong with the Indians and the Indian song in Peter Pan, what's wrong with the Siamese cats in Lady and the Tramp and that one Siamese cat in The Aristocats, what's wrong with King Louie in The Jungle Book, what's wrong with everything else mentioned here in this very video? Whenever people bring up those things and call them all racist I get very confused on what is racist and what is not. People seriously need to get a grip seriously! :(

Sad that people are so busy saying sorry that they can't see what's in front of them! Learn from the past and move forward so you don't repeat the past

In a sense, the outdated stuff can be used as educational material for aspiring storytellers and filmmakers. Sometimes the dated stuff is actually beneficial, especially if it's meant to be a lens into the particular era a work is trying to evoke.

It hurts my heart that these movies are a piece of a past that should never have taken place... It's sad that alot of it still endures to this day. To say that it shouldn't offend some of us is wrong because you cannot change the past; every action, every word is etched in history. Sure, you can overlook it, try to forget it, even ignore it; but that doesn't mean it no longer exists. Why be stone-faced about slavery and misrepresentations of whole cultures? By not talking about it, educating others, etc are why racism still exists.

Ok I gotta disagree on a few these here. Particularly The Lion King. I definitely cannot see how that didn’t age well

Damn people can't just watch a movie and not bitch about it. If you can't handle these movies then just stick to preschool tv
