To remove float pins use an automatic centre punch, no breakages. The posts you broke, dremmel the stubs flat, then drill and tap into the stubs. Then get some aluminium bar and tap the end to suit, screw this in. Obviously you'll need to reduce the end being tapped a little, and bore the post once fitted. If you know anyone with a model makers lathe they could make some posts in no time. Hope that helps.

Hey Ratcuz... Bad luck on the breakage, but i recon you would have found a lot more terminal gremlins in there.. I recon you'll turn up a healthy second hand set from eBay without too much drama.. Good luck with it, and 100 out of 10 for using the Kitchen table for a carb rebuild... You Rock Hun.. Lov n hugs.. Del & Pennyx

Hi RQ, fiddly stuff indeed. As an almost complete animal (some parts are furless copies), I'd be tempted to drop them all in a bucket of diesel for a week & then set to with the toothbrushes & carb cleaner etc. Pray the diaphragms are in good shape too - genuine ones can be a bit pricey & we all know the bother one split rubber can cause to your peace of mind. Good luck! : ) x

I know this video is 5 years old now but....When you tap out the float pin, to avoid the break, support the stem with a small socket. It's a known risk with these carbs. Just to absorb the impact, then tap only as hard as necessary.
Hope that helps someone else.

hey Qeen ! lovely job, sorry bout the carb, but try to rasp and sodder together with normal sodder or use chemical metal, as long the floats are free and plenty of space it will hold fine !!

is that a 82 or an 83 gs550e I've had two or three of em great little scooters mostly had wiring issues with mine and I wouldn't worry about breaking the carb love these things happen lol the slide bellows is the most expensive part your doing a great job

Damn and it was going so well until the break :( Couldn't believe how easy them float bowls came off, them screws are notorious for being lil buggers.

Poor Baby!!!! I know what you're going through. I bought an '89 Harley FXR for $2, 000 US. Before I was done, I could have bought a new bike. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!!! THEY DON'T MAKE 'EM LIKE THEY USED TO!!!!
