HOW TO ENSURE DAMAGE TO YOUR RAINBOW MAKER.... Besides the typical damage from falling off your window from sucky suction cups or House Cat-itus, if you purposely turn the crystal(s) by hand, it quickly and often invisibly harms the teeth on the finest toothed gear, (aka the #1 gear). This can end your Rainbow Maker's career of spinning on it's own daily when light is powering it. After you unknowingly turn it by hand enough in either direction, you may notice the mechanism then keeps getting stuck more and more often when powered by the sun. This causes some people to investigate why this happens by spinning the crystals slowly by hand to observe where it is getting caught up, which BTW just makes it freeze up worse. The trick is to be aware of its shortcomings and if you must, spin the crystals VERY, VERY lightly as to not harm the gears. If you buy a brand new Rainbow Maker, get one in a sealed package, not a return. If it ever gets stuck on its own, get a watchmaker or someone versed in micromechanics to use a light lubrication on the #1 gear and its pivots (aka, arbor or axle). Of course, the best way to fix them is to yell at Kikkerland to make the #1 gear more robust as I'd bet they are FULLY AWARE of this problem. That's prolly why comments are disabled on Kikkerlands official Rainbow Maker videos.
