Bring Me To Life didn't originally have a male part in it anyway. These are the original lyrics. Wind-Up records told them they wouldn't sign them unless they added a male singer, full-time. Evanescence said no, so they compromised on just having a male added to their first single. His lyrical parts were all written AFTERWARDS.

This is how Bring Me To Life was intended to be, I am so happy Amy got to perform it in a way she originally wanted to, can't wait to see her in Australia next Feb !

I was originally disappointed when I heard their new album would essentially just be remakes of old tracks. But then I heard this. I am no longer disappointed. I am hyped.

God it sounds heavenly and magical but haunting at the same time 😱😨😍😍

The version with the male lyrics always like a desperate conversation. This however, lacks that making it all the more desperate and sad as there is nobody calling back to her. It’s also strangely unnerving, and I dig it.

I am IN LOVE with this. I think the only reason it "sounds weird" to me is because I've been listening to the other version for 15 years. This actually manages to sound more powerful even without the backup male vocals.

It's great Amy's doing what she originally intended, and what the publishers did was indeed scummy - fuck them.
Her vocals are phenomenal, but my ears tell me I like the initial release with the male vocals, it created a nice contrast.

I literally have tears in my eyes. This is beyond beautiful! Amy's voice can't be human. Only angels are able to sing like that!

I like both versions for different reasons. For example, I think the one with the male rap is better for radio and this version is SO much better for live performance. There are lots of songs done differently for radio and live. That said, they should have released both versions on the same album.

This is so much more haunting and it's so much better than the mainstream one. Shares the feeling the lyrics wants you to understand

Somehow, this doesn’t sound as edgy to me as the WAKE ME UP version.
Instead, this is is transcendental, orchestral magic.
*I love it.*

If only people could understand how deep this song is.. Since little, I always knew the original song was only one person talking to herself. It's like she wants to be saved but at the same time doesn't have hope to be saved. And there are probably other message in it that I can't decode.

A lot of the comments focusing on the absence of the male vocalist keep calling him a rapper. He wasn’t a rapper, he was Paul McCoy, lead singer of the band 12 Stones.

Ngl the WAKE ME UP part was always my favorite but it’s sick that she got to make it more like the original intent

I just spent a little time reading the various comments, some focusing on the " male vocals ", some comparing this version to the original release, etc. Personally, I like both versions, for different reasons of course, depending on the mood I'm trying to ride. But as a musician myself, I tend to appreciate any musician's continuous search for improvement, or feel of their music. I have to confess that I'm never satisfied with any version of my own songs, I change them sometimes nearly everytime I play them, for the simple reason, I want to be sure that I have made it the best it could be, given the outer limits of my talent. It's called " maturing" and it's a very natural progression in the lifetime of anyone who wants to grow and evolve. Amy I think has a clear understanding of that, if you compare her songwriting, singing, performance, and musical composition you can see it, she is constantly growing and improving. In my opinion, she is headed towards musical perfection.

I was never an "Amy Lee fan" or anything, I just liked a couple Evanescence songs. It's definitely weird hearing this song without the punching contrast, but it's also so satisfying to hear her round out all of her lines with room to breath. She's so talented, and the ends of the lyrics not being masked by transition really adds a new dimensions that more than makes up for it.

"Without a soul... " *electronic noise* that gives me chills

Honestly, I like both versions. The first one with the male vocals are more energetic and easy to listen (probably because of the nostalgia) but this original version feels so much more emotional and somber. Two different versions of the song, same lyrics, but completely different feeling. Looking forward to the other songs on this album :)

Always love Amy's orchestral voice.

God, I love both versions. Like, I respect the artistic issues with the "original." I'd never push that kind of top-down "we need this to be radio friendly, " crap on ANY artist. But they made something amazing despite that. And now this takes the original essence and ideal, and just realizes it to such a beautiful degree. And so now were left with two different takes on the same song, by the same band. And they almost seem to tell the story completely differently, and Express the emotions differently. And I find that beautiful. X3
