Ouch!?! That felt personal… why would God say that a priest in Israel couldn’t marry a widow? Or why couldn’t they have any sort of a “defect?” There is an answer and I hope to point it out today as we read through Leviticus 21. Grab your Bible and come along with me through today’s Bible Study.

The Whole Truth is dedicated to taking you through the entire Bible, from Genesis all the way through Revelation without skipping anything.

This series is through Leviticus, the third book of the Bible. Leviticus can seem confusing and even boring. But, once it is understood, it sheds light and gives insight throughout the entire Bible.

Just discovered this channel cause, like you in this program I'm studying the bible on my own from genesis to revelation. Today I read Leviticus 21, and I was shocked and needed an explanation. Thank you so much, Pastor!

But no man is perfect. Man can have spiritual spots and internal struggles that aren’t visible, while a man with a deformity could have a very pure heart and a strong love for God, so I don’t understand how the physical appearance, the superficial part of a man, would factor in when God considers if a man is worthy to be a priest or not. I also truly don’t understand verse 3. God made it clear what is perverse in His eyes and I can’t begin to understand why it’s written that a man can defile himself with his sister simply because she’s never been married. Why would a man take up with his sister just because she’s never had a husband? They could never marry. That verse has really shaken me to my core.

Excellent. I was struggling with this chapter. Regarding anyone with a physical malady not coming near the high priest: it seems cruel but when we consider that all sickness, disease etc is the result of original sin in Eden and ultimately the result of the intrusion of satan into the life created by God, and the fact that God cannot be in the presence of anything evil or resulting from evil (given His absolute holiness). All death, despair, disease etc is the work of satan. Adam and Eve were made perfect but satan corrupted that perfection, even their genetics became imperfect resulting in genetic mutations accumulating through the generations to follow and to this day. We are going downhill physically etc because of the Fall.
