This is a CRITICAL issue for parents to be aware of, discuss ANY issues with your Medical Provider and DO NOT allow the stigma of medical intervention prevent you from getting the help you NEED and DESERVE. As a society we need to make Mental Health as "normal" as discussing a broken arm, having the Flu or a Cold or needing surgery. We do not baulk when those issues are mentioned so why do people not feel comfortable discussing their mental health? WE must normalize, support, encourage and address all stigma associated with mental health issues. There is NOTHING to be ashamed of; we readily seek help for most other types of "Medical Care". Why, as a society, do we STILL encourage people to, "Suck it up", "Just deal with it", "Snap out of it", and all of the other things we say? Why should we encourage people to keep any issues hidden from friends and family, especially when they are often the biggest part of our support system? As children we didn't hesitate to let them know when we were mad, sad, scared, happy or in pain; I hope people will diligently work on normalizing mental health discussions and care.
Thank you Brittney for sharing your experience with everyone. Postpartum Anxiety and Postpartum Depression are REAL, there IS help and I encourage anyone experiencing ANY mental distress to reach out someone you trust. Addressing the issue/s, in my humble opinion, shows how strong you really are, admitting you are not perfect and need some help is a true sign of maturity.
