Ya that’s not fair. The school district cares more about money than the people they intend to serve. The school district sees the lack of expenses for this child as a pro, as an upside to saving money, thus the child is not a priority, rather that the budget is theoretically reimbursed for funds not being spent. It’s also very likely that same district had victimized dozens, if not over hundred more students with similar disabilities, especially those who can’t physically or developmentally do “worksheets” or click on links on a computer (and what purposes did the websites serve, or was it busy work, did some of the links result in 404NotFound, etc?). Leaving parents in a rut when they’re not the trained therapists themselves does not make the conflict disappear from the surface. More schools need to be held accountable on an individual basis, for who the teach and who they don’t teach. This child obviously needed hands-on and in-person learning, with auditory based speech therapy and beginning intro to Braille or tactile skills that open the door to associating physical touch with a learned skill. And the school district that had the resources in person chose not to utilize them during the pandemic, rather choosing a one-size-made-for-all school-at-home plan of random website links and folders full of worksheets. That is not an education. It is a waste of time.
