While a cold-war scenario has dangerous political and economic implications, a race deeper into the cosmos, like any good rivalry, could be a huge benefit for space and other industries.

Sorry there's no race - China's space program was planned decades ago and has been making progress just at its own pace.

Thus far, the biggest difference between the US and China is that China sticking to their own plan laid down 15 years ago. Whereas the US gets a new plan every 4 to 8 years, depending on the presidency of that time.

Having went through the space race 1.0, the US should have a better understanding that space programmes can last longer than one Administration.

China doesn’t consider itself in a space race with USA.
No matter what USA does, China just do what it plans, according to schedule

If America needs an enemy to push its society, this society is in trouble.

Hardworking kid in the class: study hard to improve himself.
Smart and rich kid in the class: that nerd is bringing a race! How dare him! Let me end him before he’s better than me!

I think the main problem is that in China, they view it as a slow pace development in space construction. While USA view this as a "Race". China is not really rushing it. They are spending tini tiny little money in space agencies.

race! what race!? China just does their own things. National security can't be outsourced.

China's main advantage is the single party system, they can dedicate full resources of the state towards projects and there is no opposition to reverse those goals over the long run, the US flip flops every 4 to 8 years

The westerners always look and interpret China in their own way and culture, just like I thought this is the reason why you did so, so this must be the reason. They are so pissed off, or jealous, or frightened because of China has achieved so much without taking their advices. So China has to be the country which stole, cheap, untrustworthy, etc, in order to make it an enemy. Funny thing, you can check the history and tell how many Non-western countries are really successful after they took the advices from western, check what happened in russia in the 1990s, check what happened in middle east, in east europe, in south america, in africa. They must have realized that China is successful is because China didn't take these 'warm and nice ' advices from western. So China has to be doomed.

idk why western media always like to report some great human achievements into an aggressive and sensitive message and try to raise some antagonistic sentiments between countries. I think China and US are both doing a great job, and these achievements belong to all human. The world should be united.

I notice a perspective difference here here. USA is seeing this as a Race, whereas China is seeing this as USA afraid of losing its spot from technology.

I hope there won’t be too many proxy wars. Perhaps respectful competition can accelerate humanity forward but society could make great things not in the goal of putting others down

As a Filipino, I know the Chinese, ethnic or nationals, are a very patient people. They'll do things in a slow pace, and the returns only show up and compound over a *long* period of time. This is the difference between the USA and China. The USA views everything as competition and a cut-throat race to the top. China is just doing everything at a sure pace. Looks like the US is just reacting to whatever China does, and the one who does the reacting frequently is the one who's gonna lose.
