Sofia Smith gets her head shaved in solidarity and with love for her brother

A Calgary girl who lost her mother to cancer when she was very young sacrificed her cherished, long blond hair on Friday in a show of solidarity with her older brother — as he now battles the disease, too.

to everyone saying this doesn’t help her brother, it does. he emotionally has to go through losing his hair through chemo and she wants to support him and let him know he’s not alone is this. it may not physically help him, but it may emotionally and mentally help him.

Cristy, that guy was me, her father. I appreciate your comments and concern, I would strongly suggest to look for the positives rather than the negatives though. She was not coerced. She was 100% committed to the decision she made on her own. I actually tried to talk her out of it. She refused to back down. She was just scared because her hair has NEVER been cut in 9.5 years. It was also hyper emotional for her as she was doing this for her brother, my son who is sick and because she had lost her mother to the same thing. We all cried a lot that day.
