NHM's Zurqui All Diptera Biodiversity Inventory (ZADBI) is in Costa Rica with some of the world's leading entomologists. We caught up with Wayne Mathis discuss what he is looking for, his collecting methods and techniques.

Wayne Mathis is from the Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, USA and his focus is on Ephydridae, Canacidae, Distatidae.

ZADBI is a landmark research project using flies to estimate tropical biodiversity.

About the Entomology Department

With over 800,000 described species — more than half of all known living organisms — insects are the most diverse group of animals on Earth. The Natural History Museum's entomology collection has more than 5.8 million specimens of insects and spiders. It is the largest in Southern California and has specimens from all over the world.
