He opened the world to you but you're showing a lot of respect by being open to those experiences. Nothing better than partners who make each other better ❤

That's lovely to hear someone else taking this risk. I (English) was in china a year, came back for a visa run, met a guy the week I came back, a month later I was moving back for a new job. He didn't want to lose me, so he moved out to Beijing. We lived separately for a year, moved in together. Last month was out 5 year wedding anniversary, ten years together. Patient risk taking is magical

Falling in love with someone from another culture is so beautiful. It teaches cultural tolerance on another level. I’m from Brazil and my husband is from Canada, we have been together for 7 years and 6 months. Wishing you a wonderful life together full of love and happy memories ❤️

This is such a special way to share your story❤
My prayer for you had always been that you would be fiercely independent and find love that is as strong in heart.

I was living in NYC and playing music, when a friend who is a singer/songwriter asked me to play with him. We went on tour in Europe, with one of the concerts being in Copenhagen, Denmark. That’s where I met the man who ended up being my husband. We met at the end of April, he visited me in NYC in start June, I moved to Denmark near the end of July, and we were married in September. That was 17 years ago, and we’re still together with a 12 year old son. That tour changed my entire life!

I’m from Hong Kong, China. And I’m so glad that you came to live here! I hope you enjoy it! I think majority of Chinese are really hospitable and welcoming of different cultures! I live in Mainland China too, even I’m Chinese I also experience culture shock sometimes so I can imagine it must be much more difficult for you. Thanks for sharing your experience from an American’s perspective, hope there is more understanding between different cultures and less hatred & wars. I always think that world peace is much more important than being patriotic. And everyone is affected by their environment & history.
Chinese ppl may not be as polite as Americans sometimes, but we meant no harm. Mainland Chinese ppl are very genuine & nice people once you get to know them. Especially people from rural areas, they may appear rude sometimes but are actually really nice, it’s just the culture. Hope you enjoy your life here

If anyone ever wonders to study or work abroad for a while, do it if you have the chance!
I studied two semesters abroad in China and even over a decade later it still is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm from the heart of Europe, I never felt like I wasn't connected to other cultures, I had them at my fingertips and had curiosity and understanding for them, but moving halfway across the world into a culture so dissimilar to my own made me realise so much about myself, who I am, what I can do when I put my mind to it and just how much I actually am of my own culture.

Yep, I moved to China on a bit of a whim myself at the end of 2004. 1 year turned into 10 years teaching English and I returned to Australia mid 2015. So badly miss my adventures there! However, it may come full circle- looking at getting my teaching qualifications in Australia next year so after the couple of years I need to do in rural areas, I may just pack up once again and head back!

I visited China on a school trip and I loved it so much that my dad said he was worried I was gonna move there😂 So I totally see the appeal. I'm glad the move worked out so well for you!

Very true. I also moved to another country and it has opened up my mind to so many new cultures and ways that people live day to day. People should take a chance and travel abroad. It will definitely show you how big the world is. ❤

Ok so I'm over tired and emotional BUT I am crying!! Your story is beautifully told and beautifully inspiring❤. I'm coming towards the sunset of my life and I've been debating about how I want to spend it. You took a leap as a young woman with very little experience (no shade at ALL) bit, I come with an almost full life of experience. I can choose to be happier and take my leap. Thank you so much for sharing
