AUDI CONVENIENCE KEY DEFECTIVE DIAGNOSIS FIX

Today I had a 2010 Audi A5 that had a problem with the advanced key or convenience key feature not operating. The doors on these vehicles are designed to unlock automatically when you place your hand in the door handle with the key nearby. This feature was not working along w;ith the push start operation. The vehicle needed to have the key manually inserted into the ignition slot in order to start it. Audi issued a TSB technical service bulletin for this concern. In the bulletin it describes these concerns along with associated dtc 03283, 03284, or 00183. The bulletin recommends replacement of the convenience system control module. In this video I will show you how you can repair the module for less than $3 dollars.

Wow that was sweet! Component-level repair is so satisfying when it works. I bet the Audi dealers are not happy with this video haha

Wonderful fix, i believe most ECUs go bad because of a tiny electrical component that can be replaced, but people do not notice and rather buy another ECU.
You've made my day positive with another knowledge.

Thank you

Great video. Just one comment...
You could provide the part number and where to purchase it from.
That would be the cherry on top!

Got the same problem. F Audi. Had a bunch of other problems to go with it. Oil consumption. Turbo waste gate, broken door handles.ect. Theses cars have a timing chain tensioner problem. The list just gos on and on. Not a good car. 😕 think I'll just leave the defective convenience key. It's already 12 years old. Gonna run it till it dies and never buy another audi. POS. At 100k miles. Great video by the way! And thank you for making it.

Great fix I love it when something gets fixed rather than just new part.

Great job Eric, it is so nice to see a mechanic dip a toe into SMD repair. New challenges! I think I've caught up on all your old videos, what an excellent channel. Keep em coming.

What is the part number and where can I get the transistor? I have a Q5 with the same issue?
Thanks, great tutorial!

I’ll add a little additional info. The touch sensors begin to actually leak water because the rubber gasket goes bad, this is what causes the sensor short. The short causes the transistor to stay “ on” longer than a few seconds ( like in normal operation) which causes them to overheat and burn out. You can replace the transistor but the problem will occur again. Just a matter of time/rain. You as a long term fix have to replace door handle AND the transistors, then it will go back to original function. They’ll still get random short to ground error codes but it isn’t an error that trips dash light and will come and go awhile as the water dries out on handle sensor and before transistor goes bad.

I believe I've got the same issue but, I think all the transistors on the module r bad!! Started w/door, start button, now trunk. Wish I knew someone locally like u that was able to address it. Thank you 4 the video

I have this same problem. Finally got my module out. I have the 4th transistor in mine, which the 4th one ended up being the odd reading. Ordered my transistors so ill be repairing it this coming week.

Good job bro... I am the same when it comes to jobs like this.. I only replace modules as a last option... Hopefully you charged appropriately for this job... Because dealer would have charged way to much for this job...

Excellent Video. Commendable that you shared all these... What do you think is happening though when the problem is intermittent?
