As the Brokerage Manager here at River Valley the question always seems to be WHY SHOULD I SELL MY BOAT WITH A BROKER OR LIST THE BOAT WITH MYSELF. I completely understand asking and truly I always tell people to try to sell on your own if you feel comfortable and have the time. You can certainly talk to your neighbors, coworkers, friends, maybe put an add on Craigslist and possibly find a buyer, but if that’s not working then maybe I can help.
So WHY LIST THE BOAT WITH A BROKER OR MY SELF there are several advantages that will help get your boat SOLD. I think the most valuable reason is YOUR TIME, I am in office 6 days a week and will make appointments to show YOUR Boat 7 days a week, it’s what I do for a living and the person buying your boat probably has a job and their own busy schedule. I am guessing that you have a job, family commitments and on your free time trying to sell your boat is not really what you want to do but I am committed to doing just that, be available to show your boat and get it SOLD!
So, your time and our Marketing abilities to me make up a lot of the reasoning to why have a broker sell your boat, but wait there’s more. As a new boat dealer, we get a lot of activity on our new boats, as we go to boat shows, have open houses and special events we always talk to buyers that are looking for a used boats and with having your boat in our inventory we can easily introduce your boat to that potential buyer. We also find that as a dealership we have some very valuable tools that can help a buyer feel more comfortable and get more answers and help assist with the buying process, we have in house technicians and parts department, we have a marina so we can easily do a trial run, we have the ability to haul boats up to 50 feet in and out of the water for inspections, we have resources for financing on used boats, we have access to accredited marine surveyors as a survey may be needed for your buyer to get insurance on the boat for the day of closing, we also take care of all the paperwork, Purchase Agreement, Buyers Transactions, Sellers Transaction, Disclaimers and we even help with title work and guide buyers and sellers to a seamless Transfer of documentation if your boat is documented.
