Ep. 62: Mummy Rummy Card Game Review (Gamewright 1994) + How To Play

A review on how to play the card game Mummy Rummy, a rummy variant in which you meld out pictures of Egyptian artifacts that exist.

This is a rummy based game where you are trying to form sets of Egyptian artifacts, three cards to a set, from a deck of about 50 cards. The quirk here is some cards have two images on them, so they could belong to one of two sets. You score for sets, and deduct points for cards left in the hand.

Love it! I'm definitely picking this up if I come across it. The idea of forming pictures instead of number sets appeals to the puzzle-maker in me. Also, the theme (though pasted on, of course) makes for a great visual. Great video.

Thanx for showing that. it is a nice theme but yeah it seems slow for rummy and having a whole hand of unusual images to sort thru sideways when the cards are easier read the way you lay them on the table makes it more difficult until you play it more. one thing they could've tried is to make numbers or 1A 1B 1C etc where the cards come together to make it visually easier to match. the way they get more mileage out of the cards matching black or white is interesting without having to make more cards or colors. it seems like it could be a nice collectible. my grandma liked gin rummy I think is what its called we might still have the cool green plastic tray it had circular pockets where you put bingo chips or pennies. I havent played rummy since I was a kid but it seemed fast paced like PIT or UNO
