Michael Burry (from The Big Short) is famous for predicting stock market crashes. From the inflation crisis we're seeing now (courtesy of the Federal Reserve), to the Housing Bubble of 2008 and the Dot Com bubble before that. Now he's predicting a bigger crash. This time in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Today we look into what Burry has to say about these speculative assets, and whether investors should look into them or not.

There maybe a finite amount of the Bitcoin but there is an infinite amount of possible cryptocurrencies. There are over 16000 different coins and tokens and counting. That's hyperinflationary.

Other bitcoin problems: (1) Entropy. There's a fixed amount of bitcoin. As the price of bitcoin goes up, the only way to make small purchases is to further subdivide existing bitcoin. The ledger therefore becomes increasingly expensive to maintain. In short entropy wins. Cash doesn't have this entropy problem. (2) Replaceability. The cash we are using in the market now is nothing like the cash we were using 100 years ago. Silver certificates don't exist. Gold coins are not in circulation. "Pennies" have vanished from the cash supply in many countries because inflation made them pointless. Governments can print cash and burn cash. The only thing you can do with bitcoin is break it into smaller pieces, so it lacks a certain flexibility that is useful in solving macroeconomic problems.
