US President Donald Trump says Nato countries have agreed to increase their military spending.
Speaking after a two-day summit in Brussels, he said allies had committed to spending more than 2% of their annual output (GDP) on defence budgets.
The president has been highly critical of the alliance, complaining the US pays more than others.
After the meeting, he said he believed in Nato and it was "presently unnecessary" to consider quitting it.

US President Donald Trump has urged Nato allies to commit 4% of their annual output (GDP) to military spending - double the current target.
The White House confirmed he had made the remarks during the Western military alliance's summit in Brussels.
The meeting also saw Mr Trump single out Germany for criticism over its defence spending.
Nato's secretary-general said the main focus should be on all members reaching the current target of 2% of GDP.

Trump's right on this one. Same as Obama and Bush before. Europe has to pay for its security, especially when all agreed to.

Why is it going up? Seems pointless to me and a waste of money.

He is right to do so. Germany's contribution to NATO is a joke.
The fact that they are making deals with Russia annoyed Trump too and yet the media still tries to claim he is a Russian Bot?
Lol. Oh let me guess, he is just saying that to throw people off, right?

Given the facts of the today, Americans and Europeans should be asking what is NATO’s core mission? It was formed because of the fallen Soviet Union. Russia is a threat in Europe, but mostly to the smaller counties bordering Russia, Do we need a massive military alliance in Europe to protect these states? And isn’t their very membership in NATO threatening peace with Russia? As an American, I ask why am I paying over 65% of NATO’s cost when the EU is capable of defending itself. As a European, I ask why do I even need or want the US a part of NATO. Yes, the US is paying the lion’s share of the NATO cost, but the US membership also brought us the troubles in Libya and Syria causing over 2 million immigrants to Europes borders. Any standing military without a very defined core mission is a threat to World peace. Today, the NATO alliance is lost and searching for military conflicts.

Germany, Britain, Italy

Only 3 countries out of all 30 members are the only ones who seem to be increasing their defense budgets

Wednesday Trump was not satisfied with the deal NATO-countries agreed on. Thursday morning he became extremely angry because he felt they didn’t spend enough on NATO and the US to much. Nothing changed though. After the meeting most ministers denied having commited to spend more. Actually nothing has changed since the deal in 2014 when all NATO-members agreed on spending 2% of their GDP by 2024.
With this press conference Trump wants his base to believe that he is changing things.
The 33 billion more spending by the NATO-members is the result of the agreement in 2014 when Obama was president.
The US pays for 22% of NATO’s costs, not 90%

While Trump was in Brussels, our US Congress spoke with a stern voice. Out of 100, 97 Senators voted to uphold our commitment to NATO. By unanimous vote, the House of Representatives voted to uphold our commitment to NATO.
Hey, dear Cousins across the pond, I'm looking forward to seeing vids of the Trump baby balloon flying high. : )

This country's can not pay enough money for the life of one of our precious USA Soldiers; the list that they can do, is to thank USA, honor the NATO ; and defend themselves...too.

Considering the Eurocrats want their own independent Euro army, asking them to increase their defense budget prob isn't a good idea for America.

As a Brit, Trump is right on this. Pay up or shut up. Simple as that. Quite frankly he shouldn't have to be the only one raising this issue. Our prime minister should have been saying this considering her statements on the recent poisonings in our country.

Crazy idea, I know, but what about America REDUCES its military spend in Europe, so that it is more fair? After all, the Cold War has been over for decades. Why force the EU to spend billions more on military equipment (much of which they will purchase from the US!)? That money is needed for infrastructure, health care, education, etc.

Yea of course we pay the most compared to the other countries and still are expected to be quite like good boys and continue while they push us around.
