On this moment in time when cancel culture seems to thrive I am glad to find somebody that values memories of a time gone bye. Your history lesson shows not only the story of an immigrant and how he succeeded but also shows the history of the ever changing American restaurant culture. Thank you for the lesson and for giving memories, and the objects/places attached to them, the place they deserve. ☮️ my future and who I am has a lot to do with my past.🤷‍♀️
Thanks for allowing me to be me. You and this channel are an inspiration. Keep been you.☮️

Really like your history lessons. It helps separate your videos from the pack of Youtubers that make similar subject matter. Keep up the good work.

Memories are made of small things, like your Mickey cup. You did a great research on that glass Renee.

Next time you visit us here in Hawaii, Renee, please enjoy a day at the beautiful peaceful Hukilau Beach in Laie, Oahu. The entrance even has a large sign with the words to the Hawaiian hula song which, translated into English, is “Come to the Hulilau, the Hukilau, the Hukilau...” etc. Decades ago, my four little kids (at the time!) and I would sing the song amid many giggles as we went to swim and play in the sand in this very gentle ocean spot, perfect for this method of fishing.
So once again you have brought me wonderful memories of some of my very favorite times in my long life....Despite them not being of the Hukilau restaurants in the frigid north where the glass actually came from!

Renee, I like how you tied the history lesson in with the fiscal lesson. Very nice.

Look up the lyrics to the "We're going to a hukilau " .I grew up in Hawaii and we had a hula dance to this song...very simple and sweet. Brought back memories.

Look it up. Kapok Tree Inn in Clearwater, FL. 1950s to I think 1991. Very popular Polynesian restaurant with gardens and 12 themed dining rooms; Greek, Italian, and Garden Room which was our dad’s favorite. A big deal to go there. Kapok tree is still there and gardens. Part of restaurant has been turned into events center. Have a tall souvenir glass that my mom put pothos cuttings in. When she passes away, I took it and it’s now in my kitchen window; 60 some years old. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Well! You tapped into a memory of mine - my grandmother and I discovered this place on the way back from a trip to visit relatives in MA- we loved it and came back with other family for celebrations - we always ordered the PuPu platter - good stuff!
