REVIEW: Spyra Two

Over a year ago, we reviewed the Spyra One: A smart electronic water blaster with an innovative water pulse mechanic. With the Super Soaker brand churning out mediocre releases over the last decade, this was a great leap forward in an otherwise stagnant market.

Off the bat, the Spyra Two improves what few gripes there could have been with it's predecessor. And the recently released Spyra LX promises to make the same water pulse mechanic available in a manual version. Let's talk about it!

Of course Luke jinxed it by saying we had a really wet spring. This week has been a scorcher! - Perry

I just bought the LX and really love it. It’s been great for birthday presents. I hope to get a Spyra 2 sometime because of your videos

These water blasters look like so much fun. It's a shame they are so pricey. Thank you everyone for the great video!

UPDATE: As of the time this comment was written, the following new models have been announced:

- The Spyra LX is basically a cheaper alternative. It does not require charging and is manually operated and does not have a powershot mode, but is otherwise the same.
- The Spyra 3 is the 2's successor. It is identical to the 2 except that it has now 3 modes which are controlled by a switch. The three modes are as follows:

League - This mode will have the same function as the 2. You may fire up to three shots before needing to reload (which usually takes 5 seconds to completely reload) or use the power shot.
Burst - This mode will rapidly fire three shots in a short period of time. This, however, will drain the water quickly.
Open - In this mode, you may hold down the trigger and it will automatically rapid fire.

I am interested in the cheaper LX version. One because it is cheaper and two because I would feel safer submerging it in a pool since it isn't electronic. I am a fan of water guns in general though. I want to get one of the large pump action "fast fill" ones from xshot but they never have them in the store.

After seeing your and Drac's review of the Spyra... I may have snatched up a few Spyra2s. 😅 The kids love them. They especially love blasting dad. 😏

The fact that the original Spyra holds more water makes it the superior version.

The cooldown between three-shot bursts is actually entirely controlled by the electronics of the blaster. It has one large bladder inside, with a solenoid-driven valve for firing. If you could hack the firmware somehow, I don't think it'd be too difficult to let you have true semi-auto, or even just fire a continuous stream if you were so inclined.

Basic super soakers are like heavy from tf2, you need to track the enemy to soak them a lot, but these spyra blasters are like say say spy’s revolver due to flick firing being what you must do to soak little super soaker person.

Are you still planning on making a video on why you stopped using Prusa mini's?

These are just super-neat, but a heckuva price for something I think an cps-era super soaker could probably hold its own against. I'd expect to see them in teen/college movies, though--'showing that mean old dean who's the boss, until he learns to let the kids have fun (or whatever)

This is like Plazma Burst 2 IRL
I have never seen such good performance

I live on a lake and can testify to how good the waterproofing is on the Spyre 2. I’ve done my best to not submerge the entire blaster but my brother did accidentally drop it in the lake once. We were able to pick it right back up and after we let all the excess water drain out it continued to work and only needed to be reset after we charged it next. After that it went back to working flawlessly. Overall I think it is worth the price and it out preforms all the other water blasters in our arsenal. Also don’t try to fill up the SpyreLX while it is submerged. My brother tried and it broke the valves that control the filling and firing systems. Haven’t tried this with the Spyre 2 because I don’t want to break it, but I would be willing to bet that it would not go well. The only down side that I can see with the Spyre 2, at least in terms of lake or pool battles, is that I don’t want to submerge it. Which means that I can’t dive underwater to take cover. Other than that it works great.
