It is hard to describe the extraordinary engineering effort that took place between 1964 to 1968 when the Temples of Abu Simbel, under threat of being swallow by the man-made Lake Nasser, were relocated stone by stone to higher ground. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one not to be missed.
