Hieronymus Bosch Butt Music revisited

preview_player
Показать описание
A cover of Hieronymus Bosch Butt Music adapted for performance with Celtic Harp, Lute, and Hurdy Gurdy using a looper.
As mentioned in my original post, The arrangement is based on a transcription by Amelia Hamrick.
I wrote the last measure or so and the chord progression to round it out.

This composition was actually covered and used for a fansong for the Indie game Ultrakill! It is called "With apologies to Bosch, The Master", and it stays very true to this composition, with some instrument changes!

People complain about the wood sound but I think it’s an interesting background.

The part of me that's 11 loves "Butt Music" but the part of me that's 416 really just appreciates the song itself.

There is something very human about this melody. It sounds sorrowful but not hopeless. I am of the belief that humanity has a very hard time letting go of hope completely, no matter how grim the situation. Even if according to Dante the gates of hell say "Abandon hope all ye who enter here", I think the condemned for eternal punishment would still dream, hope. It is coded in us to do so. And there is something very bittersweet about that, because sometimes I feel like complete resignation to your cruel situation is better than endlessly expecting things to get better when they simply can't. Either way, I could totally imagine someone in hell playing this song, hoping for freedom against their better judgement, and maybe the consolation derived from that act alone makes the flames of hellfire burn a little less hot.

"I carve your frame, your beloved engravings, your face sharper than any forged blade.

I pour in your blood, your meat and bones. What makes you move, and feel.

Cyan bolts strike your body, giving you thought. Giving you soul. No longer are you stone from the quarry. No more are you the carrion of the insolent. Your shell is yours, your flesh is yours, and you incarnate are my retribution.

You cut me down, you burn me, you flay my body apart. But I endure not because of masochism. Not of ignorance. But of love. He is watching, and through this my blood will be my penance. And I shall rejoice in his creations, his fruits. I will never stop believing.

There are many like you. The masculine figures. The female shells filled with our own bodies. The great scorpions. The shining virgin and her child. Even the bull. But among your brothers and sisters, you are special. You are my own tormentor. I smile in your grace.

And even if the gates never open,

I will still have you."

My guy, I cannot tell you how stoked I am to find this video. I have been playing the older vid on repeat for months, teaching myself ukulele and this tune at the same time, trying to bring whatever color I can to my medieval-themed hobby (LARP) group. This is my favorite song, and I'm learning it on uke an fiddle at least. ❤

Not sure how to feel about the crackling sound. Love the visuals obviously. Hell. Fire.

What are the odds I start thinking about this song again, after at least 3 years, only 2 days after you post a revisit?

Great rendition! The final "chord" of fading away was a huge surprise and a nice touch to end the story! Thanks a lot for the video!
