For a map like Afghanistan, I think ED should really REALLY put effort into detailing the mountains and valleys. Those are the places where the fighting occurred. Not really in the cities and towns. But having cliffs, pathways, rock clusters, tunnel entrances and camps in mountain areas would be amazing for a map like this instead of just barren boring and smooth mountains. Afghanistan fighting was all about insurgent warfare and fighting in the terrain.

I don't mind Afghanistan, though finding Kola "unacceptable" and Afghanistan so great is very strange to me

The community has already started to create the FOBs as static templates, and adding them takes it to another level again. With the development of the map, this is going to be a go-to for mission creators and servers. I really like flying here, and with the Chinook in the near future it will add even more to the map.

I really love the terrain. Take aside the current state of the map, the terrain is probably the most versatile of all maps.

I think Syria still holds the bar quite high for detail all over. And that map released years ago now. it just shows that no real change in technology or possibly a lack of time?

This map is already incredible. Flying low in your helicopter of choice over built-up districts and towns feels very inmersive. Plus, the airports/bases are the best in the sim. Once this map is complete, i think the Syria map will have to step down to second place.

It’s amazing how people buy Early Access and then complain the map sin’s finished or parts suck etc… That’s what early access is all about. People said that about the S.Atlantic map and look at it now? Its latest update has really made it look awesome. The same will be seen of this and it will continue to get better. I like it so far and I, m enjoying it. Also ED said it is ONLY the South West is more detailed than others. There’s also a map available in the forums for you to see whats more complete than others.

For me it is Normandy -> Syria and then the rest of the world.
And i hope im still alive to fly on the Germany map.

I actually like it more than Syria. Such a gorgeous looking map. Love using it for helo ops.

Just got it, and Im exploring it now. I also have a wish, that they would have put the gulf of Oman at the bottom for carrier ops. Its right there, and likely the Navy didn't have much to do there, but for the hornet drivers like me, carrier ops are essential.

Please tell me what is the part of the map you are looking at? This looks good. I never criticized any map, but Afghan is the first one, I think Cola is in much better shape. In case of Afghan it’s hard for me to find good patches in the wastness of blurred textures and bad
blended polygons.

Amazing idea having a historical 80's map with Soviet bases, let's hope they have this on their road map.

it 100% is the best map, nothing like trying to take off in a heli and forgetting you're at almost 10 000 feet elevation

Sober look at the map. I'm checking it as well, and while flying it it feels somehow better than when I look at the videos (perhaps a focus thing ;-)). Terrain mesh is quite ugly when super-sharp - although I like sharp ridges from far off, but from close up it should be at least a bit rounder. Tons of details, I agree, that's a nice thing. And then kinda mixed feeling about the texture work, some of them are blurry from some heights. I hope they'll improve on that. Good video, good review. Thanks.
