The Empire That Was Erased From History | The Hittites

Before Rome. Before Greece. There was an empire so powerful it rivaled Egypt—then vanished so completely, even its name was forgotten.

This is the story of the Hittites: a Bronze Age superpower that fought Ramses II, created the world’s first peace treaty, and built a vast empire across Anatolia and Syria—only to collapse and disappear from history for over 3,000 years.

Their ruins were buried, their language unreadable, their legacy nearly lost… until a broken clay tablet spoke again.

Join us as we uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries—and explore how fragile even the mightiest civilizations can be.

Just a note for anyone jumping in: by «erased from history» I meant the near total absence of the Hittites in mainstream memory for over 3, 000 years until rediscovered in modern archaeology. And not that they were never mentioned in ancient sources. Appreciate all the engagement though.

Digital records are infinately more fragile than clay tablets. All the digital media will disappear unless it is continuously copied to newer media.

"I used to build empires in games — now I watch how they truly rose and fell. This video brings that ancient power to life!"

I’ve always known about the Hittites. You cannot study the history of ancient Europe without learning about them. My parents has a beautiful book about their civilisation that I loved.

It's easy to understand that Hattusa means Huts. They were invited by assyrians as miners and metal workers. They migrated via Greece or via Aral sea and Iran from the north. In modern ukranian the word for house is still hatta after 4000 years. Hatti means huts! They settled and multiplied. After a century the name was modified a little and became Hittites.

Nicely done. Having a couple thousand hours of Study on the era of 2500BCE-collapse, covered the highlights nicely.

Homer's Iliad mentions the Hittites but only in a fleeting list of "peoples" or "tribes". In general, I was always bitterly disappointed about the seemingly ancient Greek ignorance of the (for them archaic) empire of the Hittites.

First time I ever heard of the Hittites was Ghostbusters.😎

The Hittites were a people that were founded by Heth, a son of Sin, son of Canaan, son of Ham, son of Noah! Even Abraham bought the Cave of Macphela from them for a burial site for his family.

I'll admit the first and only time I heard Hittites was Ghost Busters. School never mentioned them nor do you see info like this often.

I really enjoyed this. Thank you for all the effort put in to it. It was short, concise & most importantly educational. I have a 9 year old grandbaby i like to show videos to of ancient stuff. I think she will enjoy this one. I want to get some clay & have us make our own tablet one day. I think this video would be great to watch/listen to as we work on our tablets. We have already done a copper scroll & made our own paper. At some point we will make our own pottery & fire it in our fire pit/garbage pit. I need to learn how to weave so we can do that as well. Again, thank you

Amazing video work. Every frame is a piece of art.
But there is no need for "snowing" for 30 minutes.
