I just migrated from a 98 R1 to an 05. I am deleriously happy with the bike.

I have owned my 2006 R1 for 5 months now, and I have to say its AMAZING. its quite easy to handle for a liter bike, its smooth on lower revs and beast when u go over 6k, it will wheelie without using the clutch if u accelerate too hard. Its faster than pretty much anything else on the roads. Have to be super careful on the roads with speed cameras, as its pretty much impossible to stick to speed limits, unless you are some kind of super monk who can channel its inner granny and be stuck behind everyone else ... Over all awesome bike 10/10, dont really need fuel gauge, I always reset my trip counter when I fill up and its enough for about 110 miles until light comes up.

I’ve had many bikes come and go and I just ride em, but my 04 is gas and always will be my keeper. It gets all the good stuff, Ohlins suspension, full arrow system, oversized radiator and of that kind of stuff. I so love how well this model turns in.

Love your videos, always informative and well researched! And of course I’ve got a few tickets on this beauty. Been without a bike now for nearly 3 years... feel like this could scratch that particular itch again! Fingers crossed, and cheers for the great content!

Really enjoyed that video, in fact I’m working my way through your videos 👌👌 always informative and researched 🙋‍♂️🙌

It’s very easy to get 🤩 by new tech bikes when really most of us will never ever benefit from them! So easy to over look slightly older bikes 😎

Great video and rundown of the type of R1 that I own (04). I would like to know what your take on it is and how it compares with the current R1.

Great video! That actual Fortuna R1 belonged to a friend of mine and he toured a lot of Europe on it with me always playing catch-up on an RF900, made my bike look like it was standing still! Wonderful bike! Great review! 😁😁😁

I see that your road surfaces are maintained as poorly as ours across the pond.

Really nice video. I've been riding my 2015 R3 for 4 years now and I love almost everything about it... But while the maneuverability is neat, I wish to upgrade to a bike I can overtake effortlessly.

This bike is a dream and the only thing really holding me back is the price of the plates for these. There's many going around at $5k (cad) so I'm looking forward to potentially getting one next summer. It's a big jump in power, but I'm not reckless and am fully aware this machine can output much more than I can handle. I just don't see myself parting from the R3 if not for an 05 R1.

Sexiest motorcycle ever produced

Top video mate. Have to say that as good as the new R1 is. The original R1 is the best. As most of us know every new model removes a little from the original.

I own 2004 R1, fast and stable bike. Downsides: generator rotor failures(rotor magnets tend to fall off and contact with stator and then nightmare starts), prone to intake and exhaust valves dropping to cylinder (dont overrev it, max 11000rpm, if you want to last check valve clearances every 20000km, change oil and filter every 4000km), clutch basket torsion damper spring shortens quickly (wheelies, no slipper clutch) which results in clutch rattling sound, problems with chain tensioner, front brake master cylinder failures, primary TPS recall. If you dont know 2007-2008 R1 crankshaft and FZ8 crankshaft and clutch basket fits into 04-06 R1, conrods from 2009 R1 also fits.
