So führt uns der Fotograf Edward Nightingale in das neue Buch “Depicting Recent Memories” ein, welches zusammen mit Acid79, Micro, Shus, Area und Mad von der DRM Crew im Zeitraum 2016 bis 2020 entstanden ist. Vor uns liegt also kein klassisches auf Informationen basierendes Buch über eine der interessantesten Graffiti Gruppierungen Berlins, sondern eine visuelle Reise in die Tunnel der Hauptstadt:
“Eine abgeschiedene Welt – dunkle und staubige Betonhöhlen, in denen die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein scheint. Exklusive, atmosphärische Aufnahmen aus den U-Bahn-Tunneln, es geht um Nöte und Freundschaften nach vielen Jahren im Game.”
Natürlich sieht man beim Durchblättern des Buches immer wieder die sehr akribisch und detailverliebten DRM Styles auf Berliner U-Bahnen – fast noch wichtiger ist allerdings, wie gut es Edward Nightingale geschafft hat in eine Welt einzutauchen, die geprägt ist von aussergewöhnlichen Abenteuern und Kurzlebigkeit. Es fehlt eigentlich nur noch der Tunnelgeruch um das Erlebnis abzurunden.
Wir haben den Buch Release zum Anlass genommen, die DRM CREW und Edward Nightingale in unser 5MINUTES Format aufzunehmen und eine Feature Episode zu produzieren. Wir lassen die Macher selbst und dann natürlich die Bilder sprechen, welche Teil des Prozesses waren und letztendlich die Basis für ein Buch wie “Depicting Recent Memories” bilden.

We advanced to everyday life. Leisure time – now a precious good. Family, kids, work life, personal preferences, quarrels amongst each other – all these factors partially reduced our contacts inside the crew to an annual birthday wish: I am thinking of you. Still, what the others were doing was always in the back of my head.
What brought us together in our youth still exists. Each one to himself, active according to capacity and location. Our paths crossed sometimes more, sometimes less, for collective excursions here and there.
Our motivation – railway adventures.
Out of the blue, the DRM unlock the hatch of an emergency exit and take us into the vast subterrane of Berlin. An otherwise secluded world unfolds – dark and dusty concrete caves where time seems to stand still. Exclusive, atmospheric shots from the subway tunnels, all taken between 2016 and 2020, fill the void. Depicting Recent Memories is about hardships and friendships after years in the game.
Berlin heavyweights Acid79, Micro, Shus, Area, Mad and Edward Nightingale unveil their diaries, almost perpetuating the sensation of a moist t-shirt on your face from a makeshift mask when the next traffic is passing by. Meticulously painted graffiti with attention to detail is reflected in the choice of materials, all devotedly designed by Deutsche und Japaner.
