Recursion kinda made sense to me because I was taking "proof by induction" in discrete math lol

Recursion itself made perfect sense to me the first time i was introduced to me. I think it was just a function to do fibbonachi numbers.

What got me was converting function recursion to a custom stack so you don't overrun the max call stack limit. I can never make it look/feel clean.

Learn some lisp, then recursion is easy. Also a recursive proof in mathematics does the job, some at high school math level.

They should just show the stack data structure solution first and then mention that using the program stack you get a more elegant code

The naive fibonacci algorithm makes the idea of recursion SO SIMPLE, it really boggles my mind that people struggle with it past that point.

How old were you when you started coding? Maybe thats the problem? I was 8 when i started, and recursion never was a problem for me, i never understood the commotion around it
