Best advice for newbies. As Gary says, stop the vid where you get lost and repeat, and if you don't get it, take a written source with it.
This is a good overview of everything you need. A panoramic view if you will. If you get this along with some book, which there are tons of it, you'll be able to go fast and well directed to your final goal.
And if, like me, you have already programming in C (or anything really) this is the best speed!

Critique: you jumped around a bit when switching subjects but you did a good job telling the viewers why they would need to use certain java std library features.

This video was amazing! Helped clear up some beginner concepts I was having trouble with. I am at the beginning of a Java II level class, without having any prior Java experience, but I think I will be ok, thanks to really great videos like this. I even shared this video to a classmate who is in the same boat as me.

I agree with some people here that say that this video is not for beginners. The viewer must already have some programming experience, preferably in another object oriented language. Still fun to watch though.
And Garry definitely sounds like he knows what he is talking about. I would like to recommend an absolute favorite book of mine, that is about learning java for absolute beginners. It's called Head First Java, from O'Reilly. It has tons of nice images and tons of good humor too. You are not going to get bored while reading that book!

Im new and I got some of it.
What I did was downloaded the video onto my desktop and copied it to my phone. now everywhere I go, like Train, bus or if im waiting in an office or doctors, I put on my headphones and replay it as many times as needed.
I keep doing that, until my stupid brain stinks it in.... :D
and IM REALLY NEW very new to Java, and got half of it.
I like how you show the code and then explain the code along with the RED box explaining the detail of that code.
Especially when you explained the integer portion of the omg now I understand whats an integer - Thanks To You and the way you explain it graphically. Thanks.
