Tetra Whisper Air Pump Review

This is my Aquarium Tetra Whisper Air Pump review. The aquarium tetra air pump reviews are very good but there are better options. Tetra hasn't changed their design in 20 years and there are better designed pumps. If your looking for a quiet air pump, I would check out the links below. Air pumps can be somewhat annoying if they are too loud. Hopefully this review helps others when researching air pumps.

Tetra whisper air pumps are my mvp. They’re cheap, absolutely silent from more than 4 feet away, and put out plenty of air. Absolutely great pump, by far the best one available

For the price the Whisper 10 is probably one of Tetra's best products. Basically perfect for anything up to 10 gallons as advertised or maybe even a bit bigger, and can be bought for less than $15. They're affordable enough to even run a pair in a 20 or 30 gallon and powerful enough to have plenty of flow and filtration. They just plain perform well even if they are a bit noisier than the name would suggest. I use one Whisper 10 with a 10g rated sponge in my 5.5g Betta tank, and another Whisper 10 with a 20g rated sponge in my 10 gallon Betta tank. They both accomplish the job of slightly over-filtering my tanks to the level I want and the waterflow is just right for my Bettas. Even in the 10g tank with the bigger sponge I need to use an air valve to control flow. It easily has enough power to make the larger 20g rated sponge work nicely even with the airstone mod cutting the flow a bit. It's powerful enough I would say "Whisper 15" would be a more apt name in some applications.

I also use a Whisper 40 with a 40g rated sponge in my 29g tank. It has plenty of power for the application though is a bit noisier. My 29 has crystal clear water. I use mouse pads under all of my vibrating equipment and it works quite well to reduce the noise. As long as these aren't contacting anything and the wires aren't hitting something they're usually pretty moderate for noise. I have 3 running in my living room and we generally don't notice them. The bubbles from the sponge filters make more noise

I just bought one of these for my two aquariums because they got rated number one for quietness and airflow! I’ve bought a few Aqua ones a while ago and they’re noisy airflow isn’t the best and they shake around all over the place! Looking forward to my tetra whisper air pump (I got a dual action) it’ll be here next week! 😀

Thanks a lot. I just picked up a little female betta, and I'm setting up a tank this size for her. If I decide to get her a roomy, I'll get a bigger tank and transfer this. It looks adequate in power for at least a 3 gallon one.

The 60's with dual outlet are like 12.99 on chewy and move a ton of air for how quite they are

Tetra air pumps rock, in my 40+ years of fish keeping I've had the old white ones, the Tetra Luft pump, and my current Tetra 30-60 gal. I've had for ten years now. So yeah, I like them.
On the cheap, the aqua-culture from Walmart are ok.

I just spent the last couple months setting up and stocking my 55 gallon tank. I had a whisper air pump however this past weekend the airline disconnected from the pump over night. The water drained from my tank onto the floor in my living room through the disconnect line and in the morning the tank was empty and all my fish died.
That was disappointing and devastating. I was so upset and pissed if at the same time.

As someone who owns this air pump, I can attest that the name “Whisper” is undeserving. But then again, the name “Loud Hum” might hurt sales a bit

I have used many Tetra air pumps over 30 years of keeping many fish tanks and many fish, I have attempted buying repair kits and after a few pain in the butt attempts, I just buy a new one when the diaphragm dries up and cracks. They used to make a LUFT air pump that was $40 30 years ago and that was worth fixing but these newer ones are powerful, quiet, inexpensive, and last long enough to pay for themself

Thanks for the review, which I found generally helpful. Suggestion: Give viewers more than a second or two of quiet to listen to the sound of the pump.

Bought a tetra 100 air pump for my 75 gallon discus tank in December 2022 this morning woke up and the air stone wasn’t working but pump was running but not producing enough air, so just received a new pump same one so we shall see, if I have to replace this pump in 6 months I will begin to question the reliability of tetra air pumps beyond 6 months of use.

Hi Chris, I recently purchased the tank you used in the video. The pump in the tank is super loud and driving me crazy. Thank you for this video.

i so worried about the tube coming off. i accidentally bump the pump and the tube came off and i realize with 2 hours there was no air flowing my tank and i worried that the fish may have died. how do you ensure it stays on?
