I always try to include a friend. I’ve done solo trips and group trips and having a friend or two along makes it that much more enjoyable.

One piece of advice. Don’t forget sunscreen, even when overcast don’t forget sunscreen

Several snacks, plasters, business card (so you can put it in front-brake), a pen, some quick straps, handkerchief, toothbrush (lightweight but still you can do some cleaning of your bike), a mini-light.
But if you use flat-pedals, you can use just one pair of shoes all the way through.
For this winter I bought these merino socks and shirts and they are amazing keeping me warm, and I rarely sweat in them, so perhaps a tip

Derailleur hanger, definitely take one. My wife's snapped in Majorca and they are always specific to your bike, which means you're unlikely to be able to get one.

Hey thanks for the tip! Next cycling vacation, I am definitely going to try to bring one of Hank’s credit cards with me!

A mate of mine flew with a certain Irish based airline who wanted extra as he had a bag with his helmet in, so he simply wore the helmet on the flight !

Would also suggest a pair of lights, just in case, but defo a rear light as it is mandatory in some cities/countries, even for daylight rides. A tubeless maintenance kit if riding tubeless setup, head cap or bandana (I sweat a lot), a baselayer of some sorts depending on weather, mitts/gloves, a spare gear and brake cable also useful to have

I recently bought a Fumpa pump and it's been a game changer for travel. Minipump is a PITA for gravel tyres (esp. tubeless), taking a track pump is tricky, and a Fumpa just takes all that headache away.

after watching this video, I promise you I will never forget to bring a mini pump regardless if I'm cycling or not.

I’m planning a bike tour. Planning on washing the bike kit and hanging them to dry (soap & hangers). Chain cleaning and lube gear. Muscle rollers & ointments for recovery. Nutrition gels, hydration mixes. Others mentioned sunscreen. I’d add lip balm.

Make sure your multi-tool is with checked luggage. I've lost many of these because they are confiscated at airport security.

Sandals or lightweight walking shoes. Part of a cycling trip is visiting sites or hiking up a hill for a better photo.

Also a good tip, keep you shoes, 1 outfit (jersey, shorts, underwear, socks, arm warmers and a rainjacket) in your cabin luggage so that IF your bagage doesn't arrive or is to late you can still ride.

Good tips. I’ll be in Spain in April. I didn’t know about their helmet laws. I’m a bit lax with helmets for casual slow cycling in bike-friendly areas with few to no cars. I’ll make sure to wear my helmet all the time. Thanks!
