I've had the xDSD for 1 year now. It was my first step into the hifi world. Eventually I moved to the Chord Mojo which I found to have better separation, detail, and a wider sound stage.
Last week I took out my xDSD just out of curiosity. It sounded really flat and unexciting. I ended up reading on forums that firmware version 5.3c, although introducing a GTO filter and MQA support, did so at the sacrifice of quality. So I reverted back to firmware version 5.2 to see if there was any merit to this claim before deciding to sell my xDSD.
... Omg! Firmware version 5.2 sounds so much better than 5.3c. Way better separation and sound stage. The sound is perhaps slightly warmer, but way more lively and engaging.

I'm going to use the xDSD for the next little while, mostly because the random Mojo shutoffs are annoying.

In short, if you haven't already tried this, I suggest using firmware 5.2 when using the xDSD as a comparison DAC.

The micro black label is fantastic. I got rid of it to fund other things and regretted it, only because I’d bought it used at half price & I’ll probably never beat that value. Paired with fostex th900mk2.

what if compared to fiio q5, this item has the same price in my place, I have listened to fiio q5 and I like it, but I have never tried ifi xdsd? which do you think is better for me to buy? I prefer sound quality and to stream online

Amos - you're looking for 3M Velcro Dual Lock... use the stuff all the time in another hobby - it's great for attaching lipo batteries to my racing quads (drones).

Thanks for the review :) Just a quick question, do you think the xDSD is a better match to the Andromeda and Vega IEMs than the Mojo ? I'm new to the audiophile world and I've been narrowing my options to these two IEMs and DACs. BT capability is definitely a handy option for on-the-go listening, but I wonder which is the better match for these IEMs. Also, is the Vega a real step-up from the Shure SE846 ? Saving up atm, these audiophile toys really dry your wallet quickly lol. Anyway, great channel and many thanks for the review !

I’m currently listening to a Stax set up, L700s with a D10 amp/dac. Can something like the iFi xDSD or similar be an improvement to the D10 dac section? I’ve been thinking about the Chord Qutest or even the Hugo 2 if I can find it used. Thank you.
