I watched an original video on this and also the lyric version, it is I feel a man bearing his soul to a woman. Very haunting and emotive. A beautiful song.

To me, as a woman, ''the honeybee, the sting, the little girl with wings'' is the contrast between the caretaker role and the ability to defend yourself, or maybe the anger, of the adult woman and the little girl who would dress up as a fairy, the most carefree of creatures.

I’ve always interpreted the “little girl with wings” lyric to be about innocence. Literally talking about how children wear those fairy wing costumes. And the fact it’s juxtaposed with the lines about “the honey bee and the sting” which are far more adult in meaning and diametrically opposed to each other. It all mirrors how the first section, (the male section) juxtaposes these two aspects of an adult: “sage” and “warrior” with the child “little boy enraged”.

Again a warrior and a sage are like two diametric parts of a man that are opposed but both present in the same way that the honey bee and the sting are two diametric parts of a woman that are both present. But there’s this third child-like aspect to everyone in the little boy enraged and the little girl with wings.

I did however, always see the second verse more about the different stages in life and purpose, how every man starts as a son, but may become a father and the hunter/gun is a general metaphor for what your role and tool in life ends up being.

Also to be beguiled is to be charmed or enchanted by someone or something. So “muse and the beguiled” I see as meaning how someone can be both the object of someone’s enchantment and interest while also being enchanted by someone themself and how we all experience both sides of that.

"...the little girl with wings." I interpret this lyric to mean little girls play make-believe wearing angels, butterflies, or fairy wings. They are free in the unburdened fantasy of their imaginations. They are not yet certain of what is real or make believe. They are flying on the happiness of innocence. As the woman, we may yearn for the wings of our lost innocence in challenging situations or experiences. The "wings" are used to escape into another persons arms or other nurturing or toxic things. The wings represent escape.

It may hot be as lyrically rich, but you could also check Damien Rice's cover of one by U2. He actually changes a very fiew things in the song (being vague intentionally), and it changes the tone entirely. Same with his cover of chandelier, he didn't change any lyrics on that one, but instead of hiding the meaning of the song in upbeat, club like song like the original artist intended, he lays its message and emotions bare.

I think... its interesting that they are comparing effort with individual value. "It takes a lot." How much is "a lot?" ... We only know that it is worth "understanding" and "knowing." Then it says "the warrior, the sage, the little boy enraged." Its a song about costs. To be a warrior or a sage, its root is the little boy enraged. That measure "a lot" as "experience" and "a lifetime." The same for the honeybee and sting, the little girl with wings. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. Its by Emily Dickinson and it goes, "You cannot know water without thirst." So far this song reminds me of that.

(10:59) As we go on Im starting to wonder of these two people are characters as part of a story. The last few lines both describe the character but also alludes to a contextual setting for it. "The father and the son, the hunter and the gun" paired with "the mother and the child, the muse and the beguiled." ... it really stands out to me that they say "son" as paired with father but for mother they say child. Maybe its just to make it rhyme but I find the word choice sticks out to me. It changes the connections a bit. The hunter and the gun vs the muse and the beguiled... Hunter and Muse... creativity or skill bound to symbolic outcomes? To beguile is to enchant often seen in a negative context. Same with guns. My brain is going somewhere but im not sure where 😂😅

(14:00) theres definitely a weariness to it that reminds me of "Windmills (of the mind)" very cyclic but still dynamic and growing. Like vines up the side of a house. -shrug- This was a good video thanks!

The little girl with wings 🪽 to me represents a woman carrying trauma and her coping method is to disassociate and run away from any person or situation that is too triggering
