As an Australian who has visited the USA from time to time over the last 15 years I find the portion sizes at your restaurants unreal. It's nice to "pig out" on that initially, but it soon catches up with me and then I'm just looking for the smaller meals once the novelty wears off. Love your channel, Thomas!

aussie here, im slender like someone from the 70s and most people i know love the experience of toxic food, its become so ingrained in the culture, there is really a disconnect with trash food and the body. The most normalised addiction of all sadly.

As an Aussie, the fact that we have the 3rd highest obesity rate in the world, is extremely sad & quite frankly disgusting.😔

I hear Americans speak of high fructose corn syrup. Never seen it here in Australia. We have processed foods as well but our fast food portions are not big as those in the USA

I am Australian and I work at Super markets during weekends. I see a lot of Junk food in their Shopping carts.

I'm in a unique position as an Aussie here. I live here, and I have my son in a sporting academy in the USA. So, I think a lot about American food and do a lot of comparisons.
1) Americans tend to have very little fresh veg\salads, and that which they do get has been processed in some way, even if just freezing and cooking.
2) Low grade good like mac and cheese is on restaurant menus. Jeez. This food is garbage and we all know it. But on a menu? My wife was at the Rockafella place today and it was on the menu. Watchin people like Luke from Outdoor boys shows the stark difference in food quality.
3) Portion sizes differ. We tend to eat food with more flavor that's more nutritious in smaller portions. Due to this I expect we do not hunger for whats lacking in our diets.
4) Variety here is HUGE. You have no idea. I have access to food from practically every nation on earth within 20 minutes.
5) Our version of the FDA is fully funded by the government. In the USA the FDA budget depends on 'fast track fees' by corps looking to get some wacky new chemical approved. So, the FDA is in a position where without the fees he has to lose people AND has more work to do. Due to structural effects like this testing here is stricter.
6) Again, the FDA gives a lot more latitude to enterprise. In the USA it's perfectly legal to sell WADA banned substance and even to cook in to "proprietary blends". Many US preworkouts cannot be legally sold here.
7) Your milk is packed full of hormones and antibiotics. I just had to find my son something clean to consume. I found "True Nutrition" and will be buying for him today. It's not just the milk either, the meat you eat is laced with it too.

I am Australian. I think it comes down to Australian's cooking and preparing their own meals more than Americans.

We don’t really use HFCS in Australia either.

Your looking at two different Australia's. The older Australians were never subjected to the food choices of today's young Australians are. Young Australians diets are full of processed foods and they are a lot fatter than the Generations before.

As an Australian I can tell you we have wonderful fresh food available pretty much everywhere in our country, Eating processed food here is a choice.

In my opinion mindset or emotional outlook is the biggest determining factor to longevity. Happy people live longer! Australian's are renowned for being friendly and laid back.

Its the healthcare system. Better than US. More regulation on chemicals. Lots of tax on tobacco etc. Its more like Europe in many respects.

Nobody mentioned bulk billing by doctors or available doctors for the not so well off in Oz compared with the US.

We like a casual drink a bit too much but I’ve always found our food really healthy and we’re a predominantly sporting nation so we’re always out of the house doing shit.

We banned advertising of tobacco, and to assist arts and sports organisations with large tobacco sponsorships we put in place the Tobacco Tax, the funds collected being put to replacing those 'unhealthy' (but exceedingly generous.. because sports is young people, its incredibly cynical) sponsorships. The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation was the first in the world with this model... 1989ish?! Australia has some great ideas!

Honestly as a younger Aussie 36 years. I can say that we do get many more benefits than the US. but our labels are pretty good here tbh. Very accurate labels. But as a nutritionist, you have to also be willing to read the labels. There also is not that many of us. 29mil... That's it and it's a lot easier to look after 29mil than the amount of people in the US 😳😞🫶🏻❤️ merry Christmas Thomas. Thank you for being a legend. Also yeah, we don't smoke here much anymore. It's considered pretty gross thes days 😂🤢

As an Australian high school teacher, I can tell you that the healthy weight population, where I live, have no American chain fast-food outlets nearby. I teach in a town with all the usual fast-food suspects and see the swim carnival bodies of kids with middle trunk tyres and man boobs that is sadly the norm. The US export of its fast-food chains, foods and business practices has a lot to do with the expanding waistlines of Australians and beyond. Thanks Thomas, you do a great job exploring diet, health and exercise.

In Australia fresh veges and seasonal fruit are extremely cheap, in most parts of the country. And even if fresh meat becomes more expensive, Australians eat a huge amount of meat. Tons of it. Billions of chickens per year. Meat at least 4-5 times a week if not more. Think about, that much fresh locally produced food consumed by a population <25m. And, the sunshine in Australia is unique. You simply can't avoid sunshine in Australia.

People live longer here in Australia (quickly decreasing) but spending the last 20-30 years in pain and sickness is that really living?
