This nose section belonged to an Avro Lancaster "Old Fred" which was delivered to the 467 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force. It flew in 49 missions over enemy territory. The Lancaster was the backbone of the British and Commonwealth bomber air armada. Its strength lies in its ability to be transformed to carry different payloads or equipment. It was the bomber which used the bouncing bombs to destroy German dams on the Ruhr; it dropped incendiary bombs on Hamburg; and many more historic missions.
