Booleans and Compounds - Affinity Designer Tutorial

Показать описание
Boolean operations are an easy way to create new shapes in Affinity Designer. However, the default way of using them is destructive and loses your original shapes. In this video, we’ll look at a non-destructive method: compounds.

VIDEO NOTES
Compounds can also be created from the menu via Layer : Create Compound. You can also release a compound via the same menu.

Some uses cases for the Boolean tool are now easier to do by using the new Shape Builder Tool in Affinity Designer 2. Let me know if you’d like a video on that.

Way cool! Thank you for this. Just last night I built a "punch out" object using the old-fashioned method, but a compound object would probably have been better. Now I know (and, so I was told by cartoons in the mid 1980s, knowing is half the battle).

Another great example. Couple of things I struggled. It is unclear what the different is between shapes and curves. I think there is no difference for boolean operations. However lines disappear, that was for me very unexpected. Then I tried to copy two nodes. They also disappear. Affinity said that was a bug (14 year old). I am trying to learn how it works, your videos are very helpful.

Okay, I never knew about double clicking opacity to add noise! When did Affinity add that feature (don't tell me that it's always been there!). Talk about a non-discoverable interface element.
