Grupo Bossa present ‘JOBIM: The Birth of Bossa Nova’, celebrating the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. This show’s repertoire is mostly from the early ‘60s, centring on the 1964 landmark ‘Getz/Gilberto’ album. This record brought bossa nova to the world and made international stars of not only Jobim himself, but also the American saxophonist, Stan Getz and Brazilian music legend, Joao Gilberto. The recordings also catapulted into the limelight Joao’s wife, Astrud Gilberto, who became the impromptu female voice to one of the most recorded songs in history. Comprising highly experienced jazz musicians, Grupo Bossa is fronted by the brilliant Carmelia Marques, who delivers the songs in both English and their traditional Portuguese. The ensemble bring to life the intimacy and honest, simple beauty of bossa nova, in honour of one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century.
