Artist: David Bowie.
Song: Aladdin Sane.
Album: Aladdin Sane.

Lyrics:

Watching him dash away
Swinging an old bouquet
Dead roses
Sake and strange divine
Uh-h-h-uh-h-uh you'll make it
Passionate bright young things
Takes him away to war
Don't fake it
Saddening glissando strings
Uh-h-h-uh-h-uh you'll make it

Who will love Aladdin Sane
Battle cries and champagne just in time for sunrise
Who will love Aladdin Sane

Motor sensational
Paris or maybe hell
I'm waiting
Clutches of sad remains
Waits for Aladdin Sane
You'll make it

Who will love Aladdin Sane
Millions weep a fountain
Just in case of sunrise

Who will love Aladdin Sane
We'll love Aladdin Sane
Love Aladdin Sane

Who will love Aladdin Sane
Millions weep a fountain
Just in case of sunrise

Who will love Aladdin Sane
We'll love Aladdin Sane
We'll love Aladdin Sane

(See the lights all shining bright on Broadway)

There was. No one like him. England was riding a wave on the far shore and we in the US were still listening to cowboy ballads with a gaggle of guitars and cowboy hats. Bowie was a fully liberated intelligence, steeped in the past but bringing together theatre, ambisexuality, color, cross genre musical styling.
When i heard Life on Mars it hit me like an anthem. I was unsure of what i was hearing but it was new, brilliant, on the edge over, fearless.

Without Mike Garson this track would be pedestrian at best..
