Thanks for bringing up the "commendations issue". The entire group, civilian and military deserve accolades and our respect.

Agree with you 100% . It’s a shame that the merchant marine sailors didn’t get the recognition in WWll that was due to them .

Thanks for speaking up for the MSC mariners; they deserve the same recognition as USN sailors!

Cheers Sal, good timing with the video drop, it's early in the evening here in Ukraine and when you mentioned the Bab-el-Mandeb and didn't have a drink, I had one for you and one for me (it was the hard stuff too). 🥛

Yay Sal! Keep pointing out the importance of the civilian crewed Navy ships and how they're being treated as second class sailors. If the navy starts publicly acknowledging and praising the merchant mariners, it will help with the recruiting problem in a big way.

I love these videos. Content rich, minimal opinions rendered but, when rendered come from a based perspective.

Thanks for the update, & thanks for the great job covering the Key Bridge collision. I just wish the European Union would step up & protect their own trade routes instead of relying on the US.

Thank you for this information and update. I follow your channel because I would never ever have learned about this vast and complex subject from any mainstream media outlet. I am a career accountant in a rural diary farming area of British Columbia Canada.

An engineer I sailed with was on the Atlantic Conveyor. It was sunk at the beginning of the Falklands war. He stopped being paid his bonus the day after the ship was sunk. Despite still being in the combat zone. Nothing changes.

Sal, I heartily agree that the Navy should have done more for the civilian crews. In 1980 I watched the civilian crew of a USNS tanker get the ship underway to escape a burning oil refinery with only 12 men onboard. Bravo Zulu (Well Done) guys. We were in the process of upping anchor to go in an tow them out.
I'm sure the Barbary Pirates, Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy), and Nippon Kaigun (Imperial Japanese Navy) would be happy to explain to the Houthis why you should NEVER touch the American boats.

I'm curious if USNS personnel receive Tax Free pay/benefits during their time in the "Combat Zones" like their military counterparts? Current Tax Free zones include the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and ports like Bahrain. Maybe no medals but hopefully an increase in pay?

Another great video Sal. I always come away feeling that they are always well worth the time to hear what you have to say.

Thank you for all of your insight and knowledge. I wish we had a real Navy and were building ships in the US. I am older and i remember all of the ships that came in and out of Pearl Harbor in the mid sixties. All of the bases you could visit and learn about them.

Great coverage. Your message comes through Lima Charlie even though for what ever reason the video on this one is very grainy even on the highest resolution setting.

youtube not only should you not demonetize professor Sal, you should make contributions to his 401k and his retirement yacht account!

Thanks for focusing on this. Do you know who is currently making the decisions on the US military's actions? No - Neither does anyone else. My best guess is the show is being run by a committee whose main focus is not freedom of the seas.

IMO 2 carriers (150+/- Airframes) will not make a difference. The Houthi will only be stopped with boots on the ground and we all know that is not possible after the fiasco of Iraq/Afghanistan. Just ask the Saudi's (702 airframes, 380 fighters) how their Air war vs the Houthis went. Just takes one lucky hit on a CV and were in DEEP trouble.
Thanks SAL and keep up the GREAT work.
