Web design & web development - What's the difference? | CharliMarieTV

Not all web designers know how to build the sites they design, and not all web developers know how to design sites well in order to build them; and that's okay! While some people are able to do both, they are different skillsets, and each is a perfectly valid and important role on its own. I hope this video helps to demystify the difference between them, and explains why it's okay to focus only on one.

THANK YOU for mentioning brackets!!! It's now the only text editor I use when I code in HTML/CSS/JS. It's such an intuitive editor that was built specifically for web design. Hi Charli, thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. I just watched three of your videos about your design workflow and i love them all! Just wanted to say that html is a markup language and css is a formatting language, but none of these are "programming" languages, because they don't integrate things like variables, functions, conditional statements, loops, etc., (although some programs like css preprocessors can temporarily bring some of these features to css in order to provide a more enjoyable experience when manipulating your styles). I thought it would be useful to stress, since many web developers become very "touchy" about terminology nowadays, which can be a real pain when they happen to be your teamates... lol

Thanks Charli, good information on the whole web thingie, I'm just starting out in this world i have qualifications but never worked in this industry, your videos are very clear and understanding keep them coming.I understand HTML and CSS, i tend to struggle with content and the design stage, but i am learning, and thats my passion.

This is basicly true, but i can say when you can code JavaScript, NoteJS or PHP you can earn 60 to 80% more money ;) so lern to code and its a lot fun when you can explain as a web designer to a developer how you think this should be coded

Thank you for this wonderful explanation of Web Design vs Web Development. In my career experiences so far many clients were confused on Website Mockups because they think its the actual website which its not and its difficult to help them understand. that's so weird... I always thought design and development  were the opposites. I took a web design class years ago in high school and found that html and css came to me pretty fast, but when my teacher put us on Dreamweaver (I think) to design our own website, I was so clueless. i stopped for years but now I'm trying to get back into it and learn more. anyway, thanks for your videos and podcasts. I'm learning a lot while trying to discover my interests and passions.
